Making quality healthcare close to home a reality since 1952.

About us

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is southwest Louisiana's largest not-for-profit, community healthcare system. Memorial Health System is locally owned and operated by a Board of Trustees from the community it serves. With personalized care for every stage of life, Lake Charles Memorial Health System makes receiving excellent healthcare close to home a reality. Nestled on I-10, two hours from Houston and three hours from New Orleans, Lake Charles Memorial opened its doors in 1952 as a small 100-bed facility. Today, one hospital has grown into a full-service, comprehensive health system spanning a five-parish area across southwest Louisiana. With a 417-bed capacity over three campuses, a 40-bed Level III Trauma Center, and over 300 physician specialists on its medical staff, Lake Charles Memorial responds to the most immediate and primary medical needs of all people in southwest Louisiana. As a cornerstone of the community, Memorial is the second largest employer in the region, offering a place on our team for over 2,500 employees to provide for their families and reach their career goals. Recognized as a 2023 Great Community Hospital by Becker’s Healthcare and by Care Chex as a 2022 Top 10% in the Nation for Heart Attack Treatment, Memorial’s commitment to quality and investment in the latest medical technology, are a few reasons patients and employees choose Memorial as their healthcare home.

  • A few months ago, while driving back to Lake Charles on I-10 to attend a meeting with his fellow teammates, Makhi Paris, a wide receiver for the McNeese Cowboys, was involved in a car crash that led him to the LCMHS trauma center. Now that he's recovered and gearing up for the 2024 season, Makhi paid a special visit to the nurses and staff who cared for him to say "thank you." 🙌 "It was awesome to see him standing in front of us because we rarely get to follow up with the patients we see come through our department," says Rheagan, an RN in the emergency department. The nurses and staff hope to see Makhi back on the field, as they cheer him on from the stands in Cowboy Stadium this fall! 💙💛 #GeauxPokes #WeAreOnYourTeam

  • The Lake Charles Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology recently held a graduation ceremony to celebrate the completion of a year-long internship by its senior students. This program was founded in 1963 and had its first graduating class in 1964. This means that the 2024 class represents 60 years of continuous graduations. The five interns who graduated were Nicole Ardoin, Ratchaneewan Bonsack, Joanne Suzuki Eversull, Jasmine Jones, and Christian Vincent. These graduates were presented with certificates of completion and personalized lab coats to commemorate their hard work and dedication. During their internship, the graduates worked under the supervision of licensed Medical Laboratory Scientists in every department in the laboratory. They learned to utilize microscopes, ensure blood products are compatible for patient transfusions, identify organisms in Microbiology, troubleshoot instruments that perform diagnostic testing and many other clinical laboratory skills. Congratulations to these graduates and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors!
