I’m always moved by the courage shown by those who reinvent their careers. Across all industries and roles, it’s the brave steps that define our journey. Thought-provoking visual shared by my friend Sibel Terhaar.🙏 Skills and expertise are important. But the more I connect with professionals, the more obvious it becomes: It’s about taking action and making courageous decisions. Here are 7 Brave Steps to Transition from a Toxic Workplace to a Thriving Career: 1️⃣ Acknowledge the Problem ↳ Recognize the signs of toxicity and validate your feelings. ↳ Admitting there's a problem is the first courageous step toward change. 2️⃣ Seek Support ↳ Reach out to trusted colleagues, friends, or a mentor. ↳ Building a support network provides guidance and emotional strength. 3️⃣ Reflect on Your Values ↳ Identify what truly matters to you in a workplace. ↳ Clarity on your values will guide you to environments that align with your aspirations. 4️⃣ Upgrade Your Skills ↳ Invest in learning and development. ↳ Upskilling opens new doors and boosts your confidence. 5️⃣ Network Strategically ↳ Connect with professionals in your desired field. ↳ Attend industry events, join relevant groups, and leverage LinkedIn to discover new opportunities. 6️⃣ Prepare Your Exit Plan ↳ Plan your departure strategically. ↳ Update your resume, practice interview skills, and start applying for positions that excite you. 7️⃣ Embrace the Change ↳ Stepping into a new role can be daunting but is also an opportunity for growth. ↳ Trust in your journey and stay positive. Remember, every great career transition starts with a single brave step. Too many managers expect 100% from a new hire with 1% of the training. Here are 3 actions to do instead: --------------------------------------- Credits to Sibel Terhaar for the image! --------------------------------------- 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. Most companies expect new hires to hit the ground running. They're given a list of tasks, a deadline, and an expectation of high-quality work. But in reality, new hires feel overwhelmed and unprepared. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: → Their quality of work suffers → They take longer to complete tasks → They struggle to fit into the company culture → They're more likely to leave 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲: 1. Create a clear onboarding process → Develop a training program → Assign a mentor → Provide a team introduction 2. Provide ongoing training → Give them access to online learning materials → Host workshops → Encourage them to attend conferences 3. Offer career development → Ask them about their career goals → Set up a plan for their growth → Provide feedback 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲: → Higher productivity → Increased employee engagement → More skilled workforce → Lower employee turnover → Better company culture Investing in your people shouldn't be a one-time cost. It's an investment that pays off in the long run. Your employees are your biggest asset. By investing in them, you're investing in your company's success. ------------------------------------------------- Follow me Dan Murray-Serter 🧠 for more on habits and leadership. ♻️ Repost this if you think it can help someone in your network! 🖐️ P.S Join my newsletter The Science Of Success where I break down stories and studies of success to teach you how to turn it from probability to predictability here: https://lnkd.in/ecuRJtrr
