About us
Since 2008, Liberty’s Kitchen has provided impactful programming for New Orleans youth. Liberty’s Kitchen works to provide professional development training to New Orleans residents ages 16-24 to ensure youth have access to a pathway towards success. The organization primarily focuses on culinary and hospitality skills training, supplemented with broader career readiness skill building. Liberty’s Kitchen caters to the unique needs of each individual, providing support around barriers to employment, such as housing, transportation, and mental health. Liberty’s Kitchen’s goal is for each program graduate to leave with the confidence, skills, and opportunity to reach their full potential personally and professionally. 🌟 Meet Clarence! 🌟 Clarence is an 18-year-old YDP trainee making a splash at Liberty's Kitchen. He discovered his passion for cooking in middle school, influenced by his dad's love for cooking and a formative experience at Dooky Chase. Clarence’s proudest moments include graduating high school, landing his first job at 16 at a sno-ball stand, and, most recently, successfully spatchcocking a chicken. He was also named "Star of the Week" in his first week at Liberty's Kitchen. His advice for new trainees? “Listen to everything they tell you; everyone is rooting for you. Don’t take constructive feedback personally. You get back what you put in. Be conscientious, help others, be a good person, and be a team player.” Clarence aims to one day become an executive chef and own a restaurant or food truck. He wants to travel the world to cook on every continent, with Canada as his dream destination for its beautiful scenery. Clarence has overcome barriers with the support of mentors on the Liberty's Kitchen team who have provided valuable guidance and encouragement. When he’s not in the kitchen, Clarence plays football, enjoys spending time with his friends, sleeping, taking walks, playing video games, cooking at home, and listening to music, especially artists like Mariah Carey, Lil Skies, and YoungBoy. Set to graduate in August 2024, Clarence plans to work at a restaurant or hotel to gain more experience in culinary and hospitality. His mantras are to finish what you start and always go above and beyond. We’re proud of Clarence and all his progress! #SuccessStory #YDPJourney #Community
