Whenever the kamaliʻi (children) of Liliʻuokalani Trust are at Pōkaʻi Bay for its Puaʻama O Ke Kai program, unexpected joys happen. From playful dolphins to the majestic Iosepa canoe, every session is filled with wonder and learning. Sessions start with a pule (prayer), an oli (chant), and a breakfast at our Kīpuka Waiʻanae, followed by three hours of ocean activities and learning at Pōkaʻi Bay. Puaʻama O Ke Kai is a unique program, in partnership with Leahi Swim School and Nā Kama Kai, that teaches essential ocean safety, conservation, and stewardship skills to kamaliʻi ages 6-11. About us
Liliʻuokalani Trust (LT) is a private operating foundation founded in 1909 by Hawaiʻi’s last reigning monarch, Queen Liliʻuokalani. LT provides a complete array of healing services to kamaliʻi (beneficiary children) and their families to reach their full potential in life. With Hawaiian cultural values and practices as a foundation, our programs – in the arts, sports, ʻāina (land) and creative media – boost self-confidence and instill leadership and resilience among youth. LT has broadened its mission from a social welfare casework focus to include community change initiatives that affect the systems impacting Hawaiian families. The primary beneficiaries continue to be orphan and other desitute children, but our work also emphasizes the building of thriving Hawaiian communities and families that nurture and support their children. Our vision is to make a deeper system impact by focusing on breaking the cycle of poverty for Native Hawaiian families. Our mission: To provide opportunities for Hawaiian children to realize their greatest potential: Living healthy, joyful, & prosperous lives, contributing positively to their families, communities & the world.

In 2018, Liliʻuokalani Trust acquired a two-story, 4,302-square-foot building in Pukalani, Maui, which underwent renovations during the pandemic. Today — more than one year after we blessed and opened the building in the summer of 2023 — LT Pukalani has evolved into a vibrant gathering space for youth ages 12 to 18. Earlier this month, young men from our Kīpuka Molokai participated in Hoʻokanaka ʻAha Kāne, an enriching coming-of-age camp aimed at fostering physical, personal, and spiritual growth. Held at Kiowea Pavilion & Park, this camp provided an immersive environment where participants gained essential life skills, deepened their connection to their cultural heritage, and formed lasting bonds. “My hope for these young men is to remember who their people were and where they come from. It will prepare them to withstand anything that this world may throw at them because they will come to find how powerful our ancestors truly were," said Kanoa Beair, direct services specialist. We're halfway there! Lili'uokalani Center, in urban Honolulu, is 50% complete. To celebrate this milestone, LT Teammate Kepa Revelle shared a gift of mele, performing a beautiful rendition of "Ke Aloha o Ka Haku," also known as "The Queen's Prayer." Scheduled to open in Summer 2025, LC will offer pathway programs in arts, sports, entrepreneurship, and technology, for the Queen's beneficiaries ages 12-21. Holistic wraparound services will also be offered on-site. We're hiring now for teammates to support what is expected to be the largest Indigenous youth center of its kind in the world! https://lnkd.in/gYvtqAQr
