About us
LSS of SD is a statewide, multi-service non-profit human ministry organization. Serving the state since 1920, LSS’s vision is that all people in South Dakota will be healthy, safe and accepted. At the heart of this vision is community collaboration, prevention and a continuum of 18 service lines dedicated to strengthening families and keeping children in their homes and communities. LSS believes, and studies show, that when individuals are part of a strong, stable family, whether that is a traditional family or more unstructured natural supports, they are more likely to be successful—and this is woven into their mission throughout each service line. Their wide range of services—including affordable and accessible mental health counseling, pregnancy counseling and adoption services, financial guidance, family stabilization programming, youth mentoring, residential services for children and youth, and alternatives to juvenile detention—enable a holistic approach to care and collaboration among service lines to best meet needs tailored to each individual, family and community. We proudly serve people of all ages, faiths, races, and economic statuses, offering professional, confidential, and affordable services. LSS is active in various cohorts at both regional and national levels, staying at the cutting edge of best practices and innovative approaches in human services. Our services are licensed by the State of South Dakota and accredited by the Council on Accreditation, ensuring the highest standards of quality and accountability in all that we do.

Please join us in celebrating Tarra Fischer on seventeen years with LSS! Tarra is a Community Resource Person for LSS Independent Living Services in Aberdeen. She serves foster youth ages 16-21 transitioning out of foster care and into independence. “Somewhere along the way, I realized that God wanted me here. I've grown a lot over the last 17 years and have had many different roles but they have always been positive and made me feel valued by the people I work with.
