Hats off to the class of 2024 Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency Program. We’re proud of the accomplishments made by our four graduating residents these past four years. The PM&R program is in partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Omaha Campus serves as the primary training hospital for residents. Join us in celebrating their achievements, next steps and the impact Madonna has had on their residency. Plus, we introduce you to the incoming PRM&R residents who’ve recently started their journeys. The 2024 PM&R Residency program graduates include (L-R): Justin Comer, M.D.; Anna Woods, D.O., and chief resident; Gabrielle Jonswold, D.O.; and Eric Jonswold, D.O. PM&R first-year residents include (L-R): Simran Singh, M.D.; Rotem Hass, M.D.; Nathaniel Albrecht, M.D.; and Thomas Kleckner, M.D. The PM&R program is in partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and its clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine. Samuel Bierner, M.D., serves as professor and department chair and is the Madonna Rehabilitation medical director for the Omaha Campus. Michael Weaver, D.O., is the program director. The program recently received its reaccreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In addition, our brain injury medicine fellowship also has approval for two fellows, and we will interview applicants later this summer for the next academic year. The only PM&R program in Nebraska, it’s also the first of its kind in a five-state upper Midwest region, with Madonna’s Omaha Campus serving as the primary training hospital for all 16 residents working with patients, both adults and kids, recovering from stroke, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and other complex medical issues. Graduate physiatrists include: Justin Comer, M.D.; Anna Woods, D.O., and chief resident; Gabrielle Jonswold, D.O.; and Eric Jonswold, D.O. The past four years, resident physicians have worked hard to develop skills, forge friendships and build and raise families, all while working with care teams to help restore patients recovering from illness or injury.

In remembrance of our history, each year we observe St. Benedict’s Feast Day on July 11th. Today, Madonna employees got ice cream treats to celebrate Madonna’s 66th anniversary. The tradition of serving up ice cream dates back to the first Madonna administrator, Sr. Valentine McNeary. #EmployeeAppreciation

Once again, the International Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has confirmed Madonna’s commitment with gold seals of excellence for 14 programs across our hospital system. CARF certifies more than 66,000 programs and services at more than 31,000 locations worldwide. This accreditation means that our team of clinical experts are providing care that meets internationally accepted standards. We have received this prestigious three-year accreditation continuously since 1980. Congrats to everyone who helped make this achievement possible! We were so excited we brought out some balloons and confetti to celebrate!

There’s a saying that when one door closes, another one opens. Such is the case today as we bid a fond farewell to Suzanne Sughroue, MBA, CFRE, the associate vice president of development at the Madonna Foundation. After 17 years at Madonna, Suzanne is retiring this week. Additionally, please join us in welcoming Deanna Walz, who will step into Suzanne’s role upon her retirement as the director of development. You can read more about our newest Madonna Foundation team member here. Congratulations to both women! We wish you all the best! https://bit.ly/3xxlazm
