Kids at our Burien Family Shelter are jumping around on the new padded floors, taking the tricycles for a spin, and gathering around new games and toys with their friends in their newly refreshed Kids Club! The space recently got a makeover thanks to Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and its signature program, Bright Spaces! Thank you Bright Horizons for giving our kids a fun space to play, learn, and grow!

"1 in 4 Americans worry about becoming homeless. We are far closer to being homeless than we ever are to being part of the billionaire elite that run this country and can influence this court." William Knight, NHLC Decriminalization Director joined Barbara Arnwine on Igniting Change to discuss #JohnsonVGrantsPass and the recent inhumane ruling to criminalize homelessness. The forecast predicts King County temperatures will continue to soar into the 90s this week. The hot weather hits families and children experiencing homelessness very hard, especially those living in cars and tents. Our shelters are full, but our mobile outreach team is working hard to ensure that families living in cars and tents have the supplies they need to endure these extreme weather conditions. Your donation TODAY will help our outreach team keep families cool and safe during this extreme heat. https://bit.ly/3H60y2d

Here's your reminder! Our Lunch & Learn webinar about the important work of our mobile outreach team is TOMORROW from 12 - 1 pm! Approximately 50 families call the King County Emergency Family Intake Line each day looking for a safe place to come inside. We're only able to offer a shelter bed to just one or two. The rest are sleeping outside in our community. In 2023 the Mary's Place mobile outreach team helped 506 of these families move into housing directly from their cars or tents. Register today to learn more about this incredible team and how you can support their work: https://bit.ly/4cqHD0j

We're excited to share a sweet life update from Tanya, a single mom who came to Mary's Place while she was pregnant with her baby girl, Bella. Tanya was connected to Mary's Place through her participation in the Substance Using Pregnant People (SUPP) Program at Swedish Ballard. At Mary's Place, she found a safe, accepting place to continue her treatment, work toward her housing goals, and get the support she needed during and after pregnancy. “Mary’s Place provided me with the help I needed to take a second chance at a happy life," she shared, "Today, we're stably housed, I'm studying to become a substance abuse counselor, and Bella is blossoming into a smart, fun-loving kid!"
