We are thrilled to announce the release of our groundbreaking research on Neuro-Symbolic AI, which demonstrates how Mendel’s Clinical AI system surpasses GPT-4 in automating patient cohort retrieval from unstructured and structured EMRs. The pre-print is published on arxiv.org here: https://lnkd.in/gp92zEK4 Paper Summary: Transforming Cohort Retrieval Traditional methods for identifying patient cohorts, crucial for clinical trials and healthcare applications, are often slow and yield low-quality results. Our unique approach couples large language models (LLMs) with a proprietary hypergraph reasoning engine, offering significant advancements in Automatic Cohort Retrieval (ACR). Key Highlights: Longitudinal Reasoning: Efficiently handles the evolving nature of patient records, constructing a symbolic patient journey that can be queried repeatedly at minimal cost. Large-Scale Reasoning: Maintains a fixed cost per query regardless of database size, achieving higher precision and recall in cohort retrieval tasks. Benchmark and Evaluation: Introduces a new benchmark task for ACR with a comprehensive query dataset and evaluation framework. Our Neuro-Symbolic System, Hypercube, outperformed GPT-4 (RAG) in key metrics, showcasing superior accuracy and efficiency. Future Implications: Enhances the accuracy and efficiency of cohort retrieval. Facilitates precise patient stratification and targeted interventions for new therapies. Paves the way for broader applications in clinical research and patient care.
