If anyone on your staff has experienced a suicidal situation, consider registering for the free Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on Aug 1 and 2. This 2-day interactive workshop teaches participants suicide first-aid, including being able to recognize when someone may be having thoughts of suicide, and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Only 40% of people living with a diagnosable mental illness in Wichita seek and receive care each year. Sounds bad, right? Yet when narrowed to only substance use disorders, that number drops to 10%. For as common as addictions are, having 90% of people living with them going with no treatment is NOT ok, and we are so thankful to those companies helping us educate and address that issue, such as Novacoast, Brown & Brown Insurance, and Jim Morgan Pest Control.
