Throwback to MESA's D.O.E Career Discovery Week visit to JetBlue! Our students had the unique opportunity to explore various career paths such as roles in operations, mechanics, technology, customer service, sustainability, and marketing.  A highlight was watching students use their lunch break to chat with the amazing JetBlue volunteers and network! They even toured the JetBlue Hangar and control tower at Terminal 5 (JFK).  Thank you, JetBlue, for offering such an enriching experience and helping our students envision future careers in the aviation industry.

Throwback Thursday: Celebrating Our Small Business Lunch and Learn Series Success! We're thrilled to look back at the incredible success of our Lunch and Learn series! A huge thank you to Eatgoodnyc Presents ARTEATERS , Stolen Magnolia , and Charter School Business Management Inc. for joining us! Our students got to hear from local businesses within Bushwick and gained insight on the tools needed to start a business from the ground up. They developed their own business ideas by conducting SWOT analysis. Witnessing the enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge from our students reaffirms the impact of these sessions. On Tuesday, we celebrated the graduation of MESA X Full Funnel Growth’s 2nd cohort of the Digital Marketing Career Lab, a free 16-week remote career development program to help high school graduates gain real-world training for competitive job opportunities in Paid Marketing, Social Media Management, Email Marketing, and Conversion Rate Optimization Strategy. At the culminating event, our students participated in mock interviews with industry professionals where they were provided with feedback to boost their confidence for the job market. They also developed and presented marketing strategies for a technical project. Huge thanks to Full Funnel Growth for their partnership in providing an outstanding learning experience for fellows during our pilot year of the program. As the school year wraps up, we're looking back to celebrate learning that continued outside of the classroom! Last month, MESA students engaged in a hands-on cybersecurity experience through the FutureReadyNYC (FRNYC) program, in collaboration with Accenture. MESA is one of only three charter schools participating in FRNYC, which is one of the Mayor's signature career-connected learning initiatives. On the culminating project day, students presented innovative solutions for real-world cybersecurity challenges to industry professionals at Accenture. A big thank you to FutureReadyNYC and Accenture for providing this invaluable opportunity for our students to enhance their problem-solving and cybersecurity skills!

We are proud to have celebrated the graduation of our 4th cohort of Alumni Lab! Alumni Lab is a free program to support high school graduates across NYC with re-enrolling in college and placement in job training programs so that they can be on a path to upward financial mobility. During the past 6 weeks, Alumni Lab Fellows worked hard to strengthen their skills in professional emailing, financial literacy, developing a growth mindset, resume building, and interview preparation. On the last day, fellows gave graduation speeches about their journey and career goals. Fellows, we are so proud of your growth and dedication to yourself and your communities. We are excited and committed to your bright futures ahead! A special thank you to the New York State Department of Labor for connecting us with Joan, a wonderful employment counselor, and providing additional resources for our fellows along the way. 

Great students deserve a great building, and MESA is proud to announce our partnership with APEX Development Group LLC in building MESA 2!  This completely new construction will provide a state-of-the art facility for the students of Southwest Brooklyn, adding 500 high school seats to the district and providing an additional high-quality option for families.   Andrew Esposito, Chris, and the whole team at APEX understand that each school is its own unique space and must be built in response to the needs of the community it serves. We can't wait to welcome you all when MESA 2 opens in August 2025!

MESA students recently visited RBC Capital Markets where they met professionals from various departments through a dynamic “speed dating” activity and toured the trading floor where they witnessed firsthand the fast-paced and intricate world of finance. Our students were given a real-world task to reimagine the RBC Capital Markets logo and then pitched their ideas to a panel of RBC Capital Markets’ representatives. A heartfelt thank you to RBC Capital Markets for hosting such a comprehensive learning experience for our students!

Last Thursday, MESA X Full Funnel Growth’s Digital Marketing Fellows had the unique opportunity to visit BBDO New York where they heard about the creative agency’s biggest projects, learned about the critical role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in advertising, and received insightful advice from early career BBDO teammates.     Much gratitude to Jason Rosario, Christina Gonzalez, and Olivia Dames for designing such an engaging and meaningful experience for our fellows, as well as to panelists Victor Cortes Jr., Nia Rodriguez, Karli Wachtel (she/her), and Marcelo Hanta-Davis for your candid career stories. Thank you all for your dedication to the education and development of our future marketers!

Last month, we hosted our last Lunch & Learn of the school year, a series where students have the opportunity to hear about different career pathways from professionals in the industry.
