For June, the Labor Department reported that 206,000 jobs were added, marking the 42nd consecutive month of job growth. At the same time, the unemployment rate ticked up one-tenth of a point to 4.1 percent, up from 4 percent and surpassing 4 percent for the first time since November 2021. The gain in jobs was slightly greater than most analysts had forecast.

The May jobs report is out-- 272,000 jobs were added for the month, up from 165,000 in April and ahead of the Dow Jones estimate for 190,000. The unemployment rate rose to 4%, the first time it has breached that level since January 2022. Job gains were concentrated in health care, government, and leisure and hospitality, consistent with recent trends.

Over the past 15 years, nonprofit employment has grown 33%, dwarfing the 9% job growth in the for-profit private sector. While women are about twice as likely to work at nonprofits as their male peers, they have good reason to, as nonprofits have the smallest wage gaps of any sector—women make 88% percent as their male counterparts, compared to 80% in the for-profit sector!
