🌟 Celebrating Success at Mission Success! 🌟 As the academic year concludes, we're thrilled to spotlight the remarkable accomplishments of our graduating seniors and dedicated alumni. This past weekend was a showcase of the incredible talent and commitment within our community. 🎓 Graduating Seniors: Our seniors have not only excelled on the squash courts but have also secured their futures with impressive scholarship awards. Their hard work and perseverance have paid off, and we're excited to see what the future holds for each of them. 🏆 Alumni Achievements: Our alumni have continued to make us proud by working hard to secure summer internships and scholarships through our persistence program. Their involvement and success underscore the enduring impact of our program and the lifelong skills it fosters. 🥈 US Squash Silver Tournament Success: We're also proud to announce significant achievements at the recent US Squash Silver Tournament @HoustonSquashClub. Our players demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship, bringing home numerous accolades and further establishing our presence in the competitive squash community. 🔄Continued Support: The ongoing support from the Houston Squash and the greater Houston community has been instrumental in these achievements. Your engagement and contributions continue to inspire and uplift our current students. As we celebrate these milestones, we also look forward to expanding our reach and supporting all of our student's growth both on and off the court. 🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 In a recent article about high school work-study programs, I couldn't help but see parallels with how Mission Success is making a real impact on the lives of low-income & bilingual students. The article highlighted the pressing need for innovative approaches to support students at risk of dropping out or those who have already left the traditional education system. It discussed how work-study programs can bridge the gap between academic learning and real-life application, providing valuable skills and opportunities regardless of college plans. At Mission Success, we're doing exactly that for our students. By offering a holistic approach that integrates academic support with real-world experiences, we're helping our students gain marketable skills, build confidence, and explore diverse career pathways. The article also showcased successful models like P-TECH, CTE Innovation Zones, and Cristo Rey High Schools (we have one student entering Cristo Rey in Houston this year from our 8th-grade class thanks to the work in our Access program!), all of which have proven the effectiveness of work-study programs in transforming students' lives. These programs not only prepare students for the workforce but also empower them to pursue higher education if they choose. Mission Success is proud to be part of this movement towards educational innovation and equity. We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through our urban squash afterschool program, we're bridging gaps, creating pathways to success, and shaping the future leaders of tomorrow. 🎓 Unlocking True College Readiness: The Reality Beyond Perceptions 🌐 In a recent Education Week article, we delve into the crucial discussion surrounding college readiness and its intricate dynamics. Despite 85% of high school students rating themselves as "very or mostly prepared" for college, the charts tell a different story. 📉 Challenges Highlighted: Grade Inflation: While GPAs in English and math rose steadily, standardized test scores declined, showcasing a potential disparity. Declines in College Readiness Benchmarks: ACT scores, considered a benchmark for college readiness, have reached a 30-year low. I am thrilled to share the incredible success achieved by the Mission Success team at the recent Squash and Education Alliance SEA Team Nationals! 🥇🎉 Our dedicated student athletes displayed exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the competition, showcasing the true spirit of teamwork and commitment. It's a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support from our coaches and staff. 🌟 Highlights of our Success: - Championship Victory: Mission Success emerged as champions in High School Boys Division B and 3rd place in High School Girls Division B. - College Tour: Our team was able to take time out of their tournament schedule to tour UPenn. All students who attended the SEA Team Nationals have a 3.0 GPA or better and aspirations of attending a 4-year selective college. - Team Unity: The bond among our players was not just evident on the court but resonated in every aspect, reflecting the values we uphold at Mission Success. 🙌 Gratitude and Acknowledgments: A big shoutout to our talented coaches, dedicated staff, and the entire Mission Success community for their unyielding support. 🌟 Empowering Students for Success! 📚✨ As America's high schools grapple with the unprecedented challenges of pandemic-induced learning loss, Mission Success is taking the lead in supporting at-need, low-income students to ensure they reach their full potential. 🎓💪 The statistics are alarming: ACT scores at a 30-year low, with just 20% meeting college-readiness benchmarks in key subjects. High school graduation rates may be up, but the lack of accountability leaves many graduates unprepared for the challenges of college or the workforce. Mission Success steps in to bridge this gap. Through targeted academic support, mentorship, and post-secondary guidance, Mission Success helps students overcome obstacles, empowering them for success beyond high school. This grading cycle over 77% of our students in grades 6-12 had a GPA of 3.5 or higher! 🚀🌐 Now, as the clock ticks for the graduating class of 2024, Mission Success continues its mission to provide a lifeline for those facing unprecedented learning challenges.
