It was a pleasure to be part of the “Building North American Recycling and Refining Capacity – Fact or Fallacy?” Panel with Ryan Melsert, Dirk Harbecke, Hans Eric Melin, Sheeba Dawood, and Tim Johnston, CFA at the 16th Lithium Fastmarkets Conference last week. It was great to meet with folks who are passionate about delivering value in this space. Thank you, Lee Allen and Anita Gorny-Moloney, for hosting a wonderful event! My key takeaways from the conference: 1. Exceptionally high morale among participants and market players. Despite a challenging metals and critical minerals pricing environment, remember that the long-term demand will be there, so keep your head down and execute on what’s in front of you today. 2. Diversify revenue sources as much as possible. While significant attention is being paid to Lithium, Cobalt, and Nickel, it is prudent to find additional revenue sources in other product streams. (Ryan Melsert made some great points here!) 3. One size does not fit all! In recycling, there is room for a diversity of players building moats on each part of the value-chain.
