About us

Founded in 1993 and based in Richmond, California, Mountain Hardwear exists to encourage and equip people to seek a wilder path in life. We make leading durable performance equipment for climbers, mountaineers, and outdoor athletes and have supported expeditions on the world’s highest peaks. Relentless precision inspires everything we do — our designers work closely with our Mountain Hardwear Athlete Team to inform how we develop mountain products. We sweat every stitch and detail to continuously improve function, durability, and comfort. Mountain Hardwear employees are passionate about spending time in wild places. Because being in the wild just does something to you. You come home and you’re just different. A little wilder. A little wiser. We are passionate about using our wild wisdom to create the best products to help more people grow and evolve outdoors. We tend to be innovative and creative, enjoy challenges, and are always looking for bold ideas. We are all proud to be part of Mountain Hardwear. We like our small-company feel, team orientation, down-to-earth approach and casual get-after-it atmosphere. Most days, there are a few dogs in the office and a lot of coffee. Many of us get outside as much as possible, test our product, challenge ourselves, and stay connected to the outdoor joy and friends that led us into this field. In work and outdoors, Mountain Hardwear helps people find and push the edges of their potential, grow beyond what they thought is possible, and evolve into their best selves. Mountain Hardwear’s very own Charlie Ranahan, Product Line Manager (Equipment), put our product to the test during his first-time conquering Mt Shasta in Northern California. Six months ago, Charlie felt compelled to challenge himself and achieve something that at first thought to anyone could be too difficult or not for them. This desire, paired with the influence of fellow employees/avid climbers – particularly Mike Parker, Sr. Director of Finance – ignited a spark of inspiration in Charlie. When Mike presented Charlie with an open invitation to his next climb at Mt. Shasta, he went all in. Charlie began to plan and train for the journey. His initial, entertaining Google search for 'how to climb a mountain' quickly turned into serious training with the guidance of Mike and the Shasta Mountain Guides. He committed to intensive workouts, focusing on strength and endurance, training 5-6 days a week for three months. Recognizing that this trip was as much about personal growth as it was about professional research as a Product Line Manager, Charlie explored how CSC could support this developmental opportunity. He was pleased to discover programs within CSC that made the experience more financially accessible. On the day of the climb, Charlie faced both physical and mental challenges as he ascended the mountain with Mike. Despite the unpredictable weather and the strenuous climb, Charlie's determination, thoughts of his supportive loved ones, and self-encouragement through song propelled him to the summit. Upon reaching the top, he experienced a rush of emotions—relief, gratitude, and sheer joy. He was so elated, relating his feelings to a 'sugared-out school kid on Halloween,' full of energy and excitement. However, his guide reminded him to conserve his energy for the descent." As a family of brands, we’re excited to celebrate Charlie’s remarkable accomplishment of scaling Mt. Shasta as a first-time climber. This achievement, both personal and professional, highlights the understanding of how Mountain Hardwear’s products are engineered for the experience. #LifeatCSC

Recently, a team of Mountain Hardwear employees from all corners of the company—from demand planning to e-commerce to product management and distribution —came together to climb the Grand Teton with our guide partners, The Mountain Guides, and MHW Team Athlete, Garrett Madison.   “Being fully confident in the gear I had, while attempting something completely out of my wheelhouse, was an incredible feeling, and made me proud to be decked out in Mountain Hardwear logos.    To be in the mountains, using our product for its real purpose, and surrounded by a group of people with all different stories that merge here in this company was really special.   This trip will make me better at my job, and definitely made me more excited to come back to the office.” -Dakota Woodworth, Senior eComm Marketing Specialist   We, at Mountain Hardwear, share a belief that doing hard things is fun! Learning new skills together, being out in the environments we design for, learning firsthand from the people who use our equipment day-in and day-out—this is what it’s all about.

This week, we introduced the Seek Wilder Paths attitude that has defined Mountain Hardwear for the 30 years we have been in business. It was all hands on deck leading up to this moment, and we’re proud to showcase this work. Seek Wilder Paths pays homage to our heritage and encourages others to embrace the wild spirit we have found so integral on our own path to creating a company and outdoor product that are built to last. #SeekWilderPaths #MountainHardwearSince1993 https://lnkd.in/dhzTpVp3
