Multistudio's Director of Research, Michael C. Ralph, along with Raechel French, Erika Eitland, MPH, ScD, and Renae Mantooth, presented "Standardizing K-12 Post Occupancy Evaluations through a Multi-Firm Research Collaboration" during this year's Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) conference. Michael, Raechel, Erika, and Renae founded the Coalition for the Advanced Understanding of School Environments (CAUSE). The work presented at EDRA resulted from CAUSE's research and encourages our peers and the academic community to engage the #DesignResearch community in standardizing K-12 occupancy evaluation tools. An open-science approach for an open-source tool is the way forward. 🔗 You can learn more about the work coming out of CAUSE at the link below: https://lnkd.in/gtapDG5D #TogetherMultistudio #EducationDesign
Bubbling with excitement post Environmental Design Research Association conference. We (Raechel French, Michael C. Ralph, Erika Eitland, MPH, ScD and I) had the opportunity to share out what the Coalition for the Advanced Understanding of School Environments (CAUSE) has been working toward over the past year. It was energizing, refreshing, and reassuring to engage with our #designresearch community to discuss the real need (and barriers) of industry wide adoption of a standardized K12 occupancy evaluation tool. It is clear that we can only achieve this with an open-science posture for an open-source tool. We have already made so much progress thanks to CADRE convening this coalition and conversations that began at EDRA two years ago thanks to Upali Nanda’s leadership and the incredible support from Susan Chung and Aletta Van Der Walt. We are so much stronger when we come together - thankful for AustinISD, HKS, Inc., Multistudio, and Perkins&Will that believe in this mission and enable us to take this on. Emily Chmielewski, EDAC, Kimari Phillips, CHES®, EDAC, Lennie Scott-Webber, PhD, B Sanborn, Leonardo González Sangri, Deborah Wingler, PhD, MSD-HHE, EDAC, LSSYB, Ana Pinto-Alexander, EDAC, FIIDA, RID your experience, expertise, and skills are absolutely vital - truly in awe of the brain power of our collective. We are actively seeking sponsors that want to join in on our pursuit of elevating the K12 School Design industry to improve the lives of our teachers and students. Please reach out if you want to join the CAUSE! https://lnkd.in/eqtiRWcv

We are proud to share that Spartan Village on the Paseo, a conversion of an underutilized downtown hotel in #SanJosé into student housing for San Jose State University, is nearing completion. This fall, Spartan Village will provide housing for 700+ students, bringing energy and vitality to downtown San José. Our commitment to sustainability is at the forefront of this project. By repurposing an existing building and specifying red list-free materials for all renovation work, we are reducing our carbon footprint while creating a healthy and sustainable built environment for students. We congratulate and thank all the partners and teams involved in bringing this vision to life: BuildGroup, San Jose State University, and the dedicated team of professionals with whom we have had the pleasure of working. At the recent #ElginPark Party, hosted by #VisionBlvd, Greening Projects, and San Francisco Design Week's Studio Crawl, we had the privilege of inviting San Francisco community members to share their needs, concerns, and visions for the future land use of the #CentralFreeway through a series of interactive engagement activities titled “[Re]vision Central Freeway—Connect and Heal.” 🌳🏙️ The vignettes generated are illustrative and serve as a conversation starter for communities to explore what a safer, healthier, and more environmentally resilient neighborhood for all could look like. We’re excited to engage more community members this summer, share collective voices, and collaborate with local leaders to pursue grants aimed at reconnecting our neighborhoods. A big thank you to our partners BADINER URBAN PLANNING INC, BASE Landscape Architecture, Arup, Greg Riessen, Rosey Jencks, and others who contributed their expertise along the way. We invite you to read this opinion piece by Daniel Owens, which discusses his vision for the future of the Central Freeway and features our vignettes. Let's work together to place-make a better-connected Central Freeway neighborhood. #TogetherMultistudio #Multistudio #DesignMatters #CityDesign #CityPlanning #CommunityEngagement #UrbanPlanning #SustainableDesign #PublicParticipation

The Major League Baseball (MLB)'s decision to include Negro League stats in its historical record is breathing new life into efforts to preserve the #KansasCity home of the legendary baseball player, civil rights activist, and cultural icon #SatchelPaige. We are excited to see that Russell Contreras of Axios recently covered the Satchel Paige home restoration. #Multistudio Principal Robert Riccardi AIA, NCARB, LEED AP shared insights on this significant restoration project, with a total goal of $5 million to transform the site into a #Museum, #CommunityCenter, and private #Office space. This initiative is part of a broader mission to revive Kansas City's historic Black Santa Fe Neighborhood. We're proud to be a part of #PitchPerfectKC, a coalition dedicated to this restoration. As Riccardi aptly put it, "This is not just a baseball story. It's a civil rights story." Together, we can honor the legacy of Satchel Paige and the rich history of the Negro Leagues. Join us in supporting this vital cause. Read the Axios article via the link below. Thank you to Patrick Sisson for covering Rock Island Bridge in Fast Company today! As usual, Patrick captured the ethos of this project perfectly. Favorite quote from Patrick's interview with our own Dennis Strait? “Walking onto these old bridges is like walking into a gothic cathedral, because they’re so tall and vertical...[W]e didn’t want to lose that.” Congratulations to the Rock Island Bridge team and our partners at Thornton Tomasetti, Antella Consulting Engineers, Inc., and Taliaferro & Browne, Inc. #TogetherMultistudio #DesignMatters #Multistudio #KansasCity #HighLineNetwork #FastCompany #ComingSoon

Exciting progress at #CentralStation! Check out the incredible footage captured by our partners at Layton Construction during last week's topping-out event. Central Station stands as the tallest building currently under construction in #Phoenix, one of the fastest-growing urban centers in the U.S. Phoenix, nicknamed the "Valley of the Sun," offers more sunshine than nearly any other metro area, making it a magnet for new residents. This vibrant city combines a thriving job market with a relatively low cost of living, all while providing countless ways to enjoy the beautiful weather. Surrounded by striking desert mountains, Greater Phoenix spans 2,000 square miles, offering extensive hiking and biking trails for outdoor enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more updates on this remarkable project! #TogetherMultistudio #DesignMatters #Multistudio #Construction #UrbanDevelopment #LaytonConstruction #ValleyoftheSun
Downtown Phoenix is 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜! Last week, we marked a significant milestone at Central Station by topping out the second "east" tower in downtown #Phoenix. As we gathered to celebrate, we also took the time to recognize the dedicated team making it happen, our trade partners, and their commitment to safety throughout the project. "Taking on a project of this scale in downtown Phoenix is like remodeling your kitchen on Thanksgiving," said Layton Executive Vice President Andrew Geier. We greatly appreciate the support and flexibility of the City of Phoenix and downtown residents, which has allowed us to work around the clock to make this project successful. With the finish line in sight, we're excited about the positive impact this project will have on the transit hub and the surrounding area. GMH Communities Multistudio Kate Gallego Ann O'Brien

We are thrilled to announce that our project, Cork & Craft, has received a special mention in Architizer's A+ Awards! 🏆 Cork & Craft is a full-service restaurant in the center of the University of Arizona's campus. Uniquely positioned as the first on-campus restaurant to offer alcohol, we approached this project through the lenses of #InteriorArchitecture and #BrandExperience to create a distinct identity that celebrates its collaboration with the university's dining facilities and the University of Arizona - College of Agriculture, Life & Environmental Sciences. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in making Cork & Craft a success. We are proud to have created a space that not only enhances the dining experience but fosters community and connection. #TogetherMultistudio #DesignMatters #Multistudio #ArchitizerAwards #CorkAndCraft #UniversityOfArizona #InteriorArchitecture #Design #HospitalityDesign
