Updates

  • This week, the state of Tennessee and Metro Nashville Public Schools released preliminary TCAP results for 3rd and 4th Grade ELA. Our school and students look like our state – with nearly identical rates of economically disadvantaged, special education, and students of color – but our results are anything but typical. Our students started the year performing at the state average and ended the year outperforming the state average by nearly 20 points. 📈 📈 📈 Read more about our historic results here: https://lnkd.in/eYVU6q8Y #WorkHard #HaveFun #MakeHistory

  • We had the pleasure of hosting some partners in social studies while they visited Nashville. Jon Bassett, Gary Shiffman, Natalie Wexler and others joined to see the end of unit discussion on Native Americans. Our teachers had the pleasure of working closely with Jon and Gary to internalize the 4QM unit, and we were elated that they could be here to see it live. Special shout-out to our phenomenal staff who worked hard to bring this curriculum to life, Emma Colonna, Kristin Barnhart, and Katya Hoffmann. Fifth graders discussed the complexities of Chief Joseph's decision to surrender, and things got interesting. Here's what they had to say! https://lnkd.in/exMY24Hq

  • Some thoughts from our founder following our 10th year. See what we've been up to!

Founder & Executive Director @ Nashville Classical | Education Leader

2023 was Nashville Classical Charter School's 10th year. To celebrate, we've compiled a decade of stories -- where our families come from, the books our kids have read, the high schools they chose. It was a lot of fun to put together, going through old photos and memories. The kids looked so young. I got so old. https://lnkd.in/gR9-fQ9z I hope you like it. If you do, make a donation or - even better - try to get involved with a public school in your neighborhood. In terms of reflections, all I can offer is this. The best things in life are truly only possible with time. It means a lot to teach a kid, but it's something else to teach an entire family. It's special to hire someone great, but it's a gift to watch them get married, become a parent, or become a boss themselves. It's been the privilege of a lifetime to watch our little school grow from 4 classrooms to 600 kids at two different campuses. I'm very grateful and very tired. Will try to share an update again before 2033.
