Holmes Elementary School in San Diego, Calif., is a Title I school serving a diverse student population. Recognizing the fire safety information gap in low-income communities and among people of color, they prioritized fire safety. Using their grant from National PTA and Kidde, they hosted a #FireSafety event where 200+ parents, caregivers, students, and school staff learned about fire safety. The local fire department participated, and 300 donated smoke alarms from Kidde were distributed. Students were awarded prizes for participating in the fire safety quiz, helping build their fire safety knowledge. Families left with the tools needed to stay safe at home.
