About us
The Northern California Behavioral Health System (NCBHS) is a comprehensive mental health services delivery system offering inpatient and outpatient services at various levels of care. The System consists of two hospital campuses, one each in the Santa Rosa and Sacramento areas. Santa Rosa Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (SRBHH) was opened in 2013, and is regarded as an integral part of the greater Santa Rosa and Northern California mental health system of care. Conveniently located in the North Bay, this hospital consists of 144 acute psychiatric inpatient beds and an outpatient treatment center. Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (SBHH) is a new facility located near downtown Sacramento. As the first newly constructed psychiatric hospital in Northern California in more than 30 years, this hospital offers 117 inpatient acute psychiatric beds, an outpatient treatment center, and a procedures clinic providing electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) and other interventional psychiatry services. Both hospitals offer a full range of individualized treatment services for youth, teens, adults, and senior adults, including treatment for mental health and co-occurring (mental health and substance abuse) disorders. Additional services include mental health and substance abuse screening, assessment, crisis intervention, consultation, education, and individual and group counseling.

Twenty-seven (27) years ago on July 16, 1997, our family lost a son, brother, and Jason’s friends lost a buddy, and the world lost another young light gone too soon due to a terrible “Silent Epidemic” we call suicide. Jason was 16 years old. In 27 years, our nation has come a long way with research and resources, but suicide remains a leading cause of death for our youth, young adults, and middle-aged individuals. For our youth ages 10-24, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death and for the extended age group that includes young adults/middle aged adults (10-45) suicide is the 2nd leading cause. Too many parents, teachers, pastors, and communities are waiting until this tragedy touches them before they act and mobilize prevention efforts. Four out of Five individuals will demonstrate “warning signs” either verbally or behaviorally (or both) before a suicide attempt. If we know what to look for and how to appropriately respond, we can stop this tragedy! Please take action to educate yourself, family, schools, churches, and communities BEFORE we lose another to this monster of suicide. You can visit our website for a lot of information, tools, resources, and links to many good resources from other organizations in our nation, www.jasonfoundation.com . My family wants to thank all the people, organizations, and businesses who have supported The Jason Foundation’s mission and efforts. Your support and prayers have helped us reach millions…made lives better and save lives too. Please keep our efforts and mission in your prayers and say a prayer for those who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide…let them find help and let it be us…their family, friends, teachers, pastors, and communities.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. If you’re struggling with addiction or recovery, Mental Health America’s peer support specialists are here to help. To try it, text "hello" to 703-643-4554. Our line is FREE (for United States residents) and operates from 10 a.m. to midnight Eastern Time (7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific), Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). P.S. This line is more than a one-time conversation or crisis text line. Our peers will stay with you and help you on your journey for as long as you need them. 💙 Thank you to the Elevance Health Foundation for supporting this program.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Melanie Nelson, LCSW. Melanie joined Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital on October 17, 2022 and served as its CEO since. Melanie was known to be a kind & caring professional who very successfully led the SBHH family through its early infancy as a new hospital. We will miss her smile, her warmth, and her compassionate approach to the staff and patients here at the hospital.

Today marks the beginning of Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month Bebe Moore Campbell was a literary trailblazer, who used her words in books including, “The 72-Hour Hold” and “Sometimes My Mommy Gets Angry,” to address the profound impact of racism, mental health and the enduring strength of culture, community and connections. However, her impact extended beyond her literary works. She co-founded NAMI Urban Los Angeles and became a national change agent whose groundbreaking work revolutionized the way we approach mental health in underserved communities. She recognized and understood the detrimental consequences of silence rooted in stigma — one of the reasons for the lack of mental health care and treatment within communities of color.
