Our attorneys provide legal business solutions to public and private entities of all types—including Fortune 100 companies, financial institutions, nonprofits and high net worth individuals—in connection with domestic and global business transactions and litigation. We are large enough to handle nearly any legal matter throughout the world, yet small enough that clients personally know the attorneys accountable to their matters. Our greatest asset is our people. Lawyers and staff at every level aspire to cultivate long-lasting relationships among one another and with each client. This mindset helps to advance our shared mission to be the best providers of legal services. To every matter, we bring a client-focused approach. First, we listen to our clients and learn about their challenges. We then deploy our collective legal aptitude, experience and industry knowledge to provide sound and cost-effective legal counsel. We have assembled a “best of the best” roster of attorneys, and we are proud to be recognized nationally and internationally for our knowledge in a variety of practice areas. For 2023, Chambers USA ranked 12 of our practice groups and 26 individual attorneys. Our culture of teamwork, focus on client needs and practical solutions, and willingness to adapt quickly to meet marketplace demands are key factors behind our success. In addition to making a positive difference for our clients, our lawyers strive to do the same for their communities. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Diversity Lab's 2024 Moments to Movements Hackathon and 10th Anniversary Celebration in New York City on July 11. This event served as a platform for law firm partners, in-house leaders, DEI advisors, and judges to come together to focus on developing, enhancing, and improving DEI and inclusive talent systems. Teams presented their solutions in hopes of being selected to be developed, refined, and tested with participating firms. NGE was proud to send two representatives, Executive Committee Member and Labor & Employment Partner Sonya Rosenberg and Director of Talent & Diversity Marlon Lutfiyya, to participate in this year's Hackathon! Sonya was a participant on "Team Cowboy Carter," which proposed “The Table” to build community among law firms and companies to share experiences, resources, and solutions to challenges in the DEI space. Diversity Lab has decided to move forward with putting this idea into action. Marlon was the DEI advisor for "Team Bias Busters," one of the winners in the Inclusive Talent Systems category at this year's event, which proposed an app that facilitates the equitable allocation of work within firms and that promotes law firm/legal department collaboration toward the production of work, mentorship and other development opportunities for associates. We are proud to support Diversity Lab as it generates innovative ideas and solutions to enhance and promote diversity and inclusion in law. NGE colleagues gathered for a Being Well Walk across Chicago’s Loop this afternoon. The group headed from our office to Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, where they enjoyed lunch as they heard the Grant Park Orchestra rehearse. It was a great way for attorneys and staff to listen to music, enjoy the gorgeous summer weather, and connect with friends! #wellness #wellbeingatwork #lawyerwellbeing

Intellectual Property Partner Tom Campbell published an article in The Global Legal Post titled "How Proposed Drug Pricing and Patent Reform Bills Will Impact US Pharma Innovation." The article discusses how proposed drug pricing and patent reform bills, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, plan to reduce drug costs by allowing Medicare to negotiate prices and limiting patent strategies that prevent generic competition. It also highlights that while these reforms could lower consumer costs, they may also impact innovation by likely reducing private investment in the pharmaceutical sector as a result of changes in patent enforcement and pricing regulations. Intellectual Property Partner Antony McShane was quoted in the Law360 article, "Restaurant Group Gets Another Shot At TM Suit Against Hotel." The article discusses how the Fifth Circuit has revived a trademark infringement case where Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises (LEYE) accused Hotel Magdalena of copying its summer-themed branding, finding that the lower court incorrectly applied the summary judgment standard. It notes that the appellate court reversed the lower court's ruling in favor of Hotel Magdalena, highlighting that evidence should have been examined in a more favorable light to LEYE, thus resulting in the case being sent back for further proceedings.
