Mission: To help people gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to thrive in diverse communities. Founded in 1897.

About us

Neighborhood House has been and continues to be a welcoming presence for thousands of refugees, immigrants and others in transition or crisis. Our organization has become a full-service hub for those seeking assistance with basic needs, from food to housing, as well as helping create future opportunities through family coaching and education programming. From our headquarters on the West Side of St. Paul, Neighborhood House has supported people from over 50 different cultural backgrounds and nationalities over the decades, nimbly adapting to the rapidly changing needs of the individuals, families, and communities we serve. Our integrated approach to programming recognizes the wholeness of every person’s life and considers aspects of each individual’s needs and well-being so that we can serve every member of a family as they build strength and stability for the future. Our participants are immigrants, refugees, and long-time residents facing challenging situations. Of the approximately 14,000 people we serve each year, more than 90% live at or below the poverty level, over 90% are minority, and roughly 75% speak a native language other than English at home. Many participants return to the organization as volunteers, donors, or staff, paying the mission forward. You can work toward breaking the cycle of poverty as a participant, volunteer, or donor. When you partner with Neighborhood House, you make a valuable difference in our community. We invite you to become part of our neighborhood tradition and local history.

🌞🍉 Huge thank you to the Right Hand Foundation and all our amazing friends who prepared a delicious lunchtime meal for our participants at Summer Sunrise Youth Camp and those visiting our Fresh Produce Distribution last week at the Wellstone Center. It was a hot day and the watermelon, burgers, hotdogs, chips, and cookies sure did hit the spot! WOW, what a great time! We are so appreciative of you and your support. Thank you!

We're thrilled to share that our newly opened food shelf at 1080 Montreal Ave has already made a significant impact in the community! Neighborhood House was recently featured in The Villager local newspaper. Read the article on our website here: https://lnkd.in/eMPQmd3A After closing the Francis Basket food shelf at Sibley Manor, we moved to Neighborhood House on Montreal, a much larger location, which opened on June 3rd. In just the first week, we served 105 households and distributed around 4,500 pounds of food! 🍎🥬🥖 Our new food center offers more space and better accessibility, helping us serve more people efficiently. We're grateful for our partnerships with Second Harvest Heartland, Lunds & Byerlys, and many local donors who make this possible. 🛒🤝 We invite everyone to visit our new location and spread the word. Our food center is open Monday through Wednesday, 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. If you would like to help us further, this month is July Food Drive! We are collecting food to help keep our shelves full at our new location. Please consider dropping off shelf-stable foods at our new location during shopping hours! For large drop-offs, please call us at (651) 699-3600

"Larry Lucio remembers the day 60 years ago when he saw a bulldozer leveling his home. He was riding his bike past the house his family was given two weeks to vacate — the home where he and nine of his 11 siblings were born." On Monday, West Side residents and community leaders unveiled a report documenting the demolition of the West Side Flats, a once flood-prone but deeply interconnected neighborhood. The report, compiled by Research In Action for the West Side Community Organization, calls for meaningful reparations including public apologies, compensation, affordable housing, and pollution cleanup. Decades after the displacement, community members are advocating for justice and revitalization. 🔗 Read the full article in the Star Tribune: https://lnkd.in/eZeqgkHq #WestSideFlats #CommunityHistory #JusticeForWestSide #NeighborhoodResilience #WSCO #StoriesOfTheFlats #StPaulHistory #ResearchInAction #WestSideCommunityOrganization #NeighborhoodHouse
