NJDOT’s Design Build Seminar, supported by the Utility & Transportation Contractors Association (UTCA), marked the kick-off of understanding Alternate Project Delivery (APD) or Design-Build, with a focus on NJDOT’s new procurement process. This seminar aimed to equip contractors, engineers, and academic partners for the new project delivery method through interactive Q&A sessions with presenters and attendees. Additionally, NJDOT staff provided updates on the progress of the Design Build Program to industry stakeholders. This half-day event offered an opportunity for industry professionals to engage with NJDOT in finalizing this new procurement approach for the Department's future projects. Thank you to everyone who attended!

Congratulations to Eric Schwarz, our Research Librarian, for receiving the Special Libraries Association 2024 Innovation Award for his work on the NJDOT Memorial Wall. In 2023 Eric found the names of five men who were killed in service in a newspaper called The Highway, published from 1942 to 1950. Thank you, Eric, for your work in remembering those who sacrificed everything for our great state.

NJDOT’s Office of Maritime Resources attended the Western Dredging Associations (WEDA) Dredging Summit and Expo last week in Tampa, Florida. The conference was attended by over one thousand dredging professionals from the maritime industry, government, and academia across North and South America. New Jersey Dredging Program Manager Scott Douglas presented two papers and participated in two discussion panels over the course of the three-day conference. Scott highlighted DOTs award-winning Abbotts Meadow Marsh Restoration project that provided placement for more than 675,000 cubic yards of sediment dredged as part of the construction of the NJ Wind Port. This project restored over 100 acres of critical wildlife habitat in Salem County. Scott also presented a paper summarizing New Jersey’s 30 years of progress developing, testing, and implementing beneficial use of dredged material statewide. This paper was so well received by the dredging industry that we have been asked to prepare a half day session on NJDOT’s beneficial use techniques and projects at next year’s conference.
