About us
New Leaf Energy is one of the leading developers of renewable energy and energy storage projects in the United States—both distributed generation and utility scale. Headquartered in Lowell, MA, with employees and projects spanning the country, New Leaf Energy was formed in 2022 out of Borrego’s market-leading solar and energy storage development business, which extends back to 1980. At New Leaf Energy, we partner with landowners, utilities, and local communities to secure, design, and permit commercial, community, and utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects and prepare them for sale to long-term asset owners. Together with our partners, we aim to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in service of the goal of rapidly decarbonizing our society.

We're about a month into life at our newest office, at the corner of LaSalle and Lake Streets in Chicago's Central Business District. Open workstations, lovely conference rooms, expansive city views, just blocks from the Riverwalk...it's a real gem, right in the thick of an incredible city. This also marks New Leaf Energy's FIFTH office, joining our constellation of beautiful, in-person workspaces in Lowell, Boston, Oakland, and Troy. It's quite a feat to grow from one office to five in just two years—and we couldn't be happier to be collaborating in-person, or more grateful to our operations team for making it happen. 🌿 🌆

A big focus of our work at New Leaf Energy is working with landowners to lease their land for renewable energy projects: ground-mounted solar arrays, wind farms, and energy storage systems. In the course of that work, we often field questions from landowners and communities about what the development process is like from a landowner perspective. Here's a nice, crisp overview of what landowners can expect from working with New Leaf Energy, from the first conversation through project decommissioning.

Last month, we welcomed Andrew Hall as our Chief Revenue Officer at New Leaf Energy. Since 2022, Andrew has served as an Independent Board Director for New Leaf, and prior to that he helped lead Borrego through a period of rapid expansion in various roles during his nine-year tenure, including CEO, CFO, and General Counsel. We are extremely fortunate to be able to bring in a leader of Andrew’s caliber, and who has such deep familiarity with and understanding of all aspects of New Leaf Energy. As CEO Dan Berwick shared with our team: "After working closely with Andrew for nearly a decade, I have an incredibly high personal and professional opinion of him. I am really looking forward to this next chapter in our collaboration."

This time last week, the New Leaf Energy team was assembled in San Diego for our annual summit. More specifically, we were gathered at Moonshine Beach for the highly anticipated performances of not one but TWO company bands: versatile rockers The Leading Indicators, and ukulele pros Cool Hand Uke. From Neil Diamond to 2Pac to Taylor Swift, we were treated to a sonic journey of truly epic proportions. 🔥

Last Thursday, a contingent of New Leafers joined close to 700 other folks, including keynote speaker Governor Maura Healey, at the 13th annual gala for New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE). As always, it was a powerful event, leaving us feeling connected, inspired, and full of gratitude. Though he didn't intend for it to be shared widely...our CEO Dan Berwick's thank you note to the NEWIEE board nicely captures the spirit of the event, and the organization: "You have created a remarkable space for women in our community to support each other, and to empower themselves and each other to better serve our shared mission. New Leaf Energy is objectively, demonstrably better for it."
