Welcome to Las Fuentes, a 941-lot community in Etzatlán, Mexico 🇲🇽 An innovative land development model pioneered by our local partner UR+PA provided low-income families an opportunity to purchase a formal lot with a title and services. And now, these families can use their land titles to secure a housing loan, self-build their home, and create generational wealth.

Affordable housing options are scarce for low-income families in Mexico. We're changing the narrative by developing land through investments and partnerships. The sustainable model allows families to own property in just two years — one of the fastest options for low-income families across all of Mexico!

Meet Esmeralda. 👋 A single mom with a four-year-old son and working as a stylist and makeup artist in Etzatlán, Mexico, her dream has always been to provide security and a home for her son. She recently completed her payments for a lot in the Las Fuentes community in Etzatlán and is now a landowner! Now, she's planning to build her home and create a "comforting place where there's joy and a shared love." We are scaling this work across Mexico with the help of investors and philanthropists. So more people like Esmeralda can secure safe homes and communities in which to thrive. Find ways to get involved here: https://lnkd.in/gFC4cYqm

Land is the gateway to affordable housing. When families own land, it: ⛰️ Serves as collateral to secure affordable financing ⛰️ Guarantees long-term security from eviction ⛰️ Provides a generational asset In Mexico, we're partnering with local developers to scale a model that invests and opens affordable land supply to empower families to become land and homeowners in thriving communities.

"We feel called to a pretty big vision to help millions and millions of people have life-changing housing." With 1.8 billion people living without adequate housing, New Story's vision hasn't changed in the past decade, but our core strategy needed to evolve to address this massive crisis. Listen to Brett Hagler, our CEO and co-founder, talk about our innovative approach on the Disruptors for Good podcast: https://lnkd.in/gv9ubxcv

Many traditional nonprofits provide one solution for the families they serve. At New Story, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to choose the housing they need and want at a price they can afford. That's why we start with land because we want families to take ownership of their lives from the ground up. https://lnkd.in/e4HjX36x

It was an honor to spend time with Hernando De Soto. “New Story’s approach helps families move out of poverty. By connecting investments to this sustainable land ownership model, New Story can reduce poverty and inequality in an effective way.” – Hernando de Soto His book, Mystery of Capital, significantly influenced New Story's focus on property rights and land ownership as the foundational step to market-based housing solutions. I am grateful to have Hernando as a new mentor, advisor, and supporter of New Story's work. Enrique Mezo Herrera and I spent two days in Lima, Peru, learning, brainstorming, and discussing opportunities with Hernando. He is one of the biggest thinkers I've ever been around with a deep passion for market-based solutions to unlock potential in the developing world. For those unfamiliar with Hernando's work, he is to market-based international development what Warren Buffett is to American investing. This year, he will make an announcement that I think is the biggest and potentially most transformative idea of his career. What other global leaders have said: “I believe that Hernando de Soto is probably the world's greatest living economist.” — President Bill Clinton "Hernando de Soto’s book is about the most important contribution to understanding the economic problem of the developing world in many years." — Margaret Thatcher Thank you, Hernando!
