A few days ago, we received a heartfelt letter from a grandmother 💙. Her nine-year-old grandson, Jax, has a dream of becoming a law enforcement officer one day. Unfortunately, he’s been battling a disease which has resulted in 10 non-cancerous tumors within his little body. “It breaks our hearts when he can’t participate in sports or activities….These patches are meaningful as each one is added to a blanket or superhero cape that goes with him when he visits doctors or the hospital. These patches help him be brave.” Jax, we pray for your recovery, and we can’t wait to see you as a member of a law enforcement agency ❤️🩹 Patches for Jax . . . #NewMexico #corrections #lawenforcement #patches

The Roswell Correctional Center (RCC) has produced a whopping 3,000 sandbags for the Ruidoso area. 🙌 THANK YOU to the incredible New Mexico National Guard. Last night, they loaded up the sandbags and are now in the process of distributing them. These coordinated efforts will greatly contribute to minimizing the impacts of flooding. . . . #NewMexico #corrections #teamwork

We are proud to announce that the “Be Pro Be Proud” tour is coming to New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) facilities! NMCD is the FIRST state prison system to host the immersive mobile workshop for inmates! 💪🏼 Inside the state-of-the-art semi-truck trailer, inmates will embark on an immersive technical careers and skilled trades journey through more than a dozen hands-on simulators and virtual reality experiences. During this time, they will have the unique opportunity to explore a variety of trade career industries including welding, carpentry, robotics, transportation, and more. “By experiencing simulated work environments, it is our hope the inmates will walk away with a heightened sense of curiosity and eagerness about post-incarceration career opportunities,” said NMCD Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero. “In bringing this workshop to our prison facilities, we are continuing to prove our commitment to reduce recidivism rates by further strengthening our communities.” “Be Pro Be Proud” is an initiative led by the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (DWS) and the New Mexico Center for Economic Opportunity (NMCEO). “When thinking about what career path to take, there is no better way to connect with possibilities than with hands-on experience,” said DWS Cabinet Secretary Sarita Nair. “Be Pro Be Proud gives people who will soon be re-entering communities an opportunity to explore in-demand technical careers, learn where and how to obtain training, and explore opportunities like registered apprenticeships. This initiative contributes to two goals of our State Plan – increasing outreach to justice-involved individuals and building the construction workforce - by showing these participants that good-paying careers will be accessible to them when the time comes.” “The great thing about Be Pro Be Proud, is that it helps spur an individual’s imagination about what they can become, where they can take their lives, as it provides the pathway to make that change,” said Rob Black, President and CEO of the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce. “We are excited to partner with the Corrections and Workforce Solutions Departments on this important effort to help returning citizens find a better future for themselves and their families.” The state prison facility tour is scheduled to commence at the end of July. #StrongerTogether On June 29th, Region IV Probation and Parole Supervisor Isabel Lucero and Region IV Probation and Parole Officer Naomi Abeyta took part in the Special Olympics New Mexico Torch Run. They ran 8.29 miles! 🔥 That evening, they helped out with the Special Olympics “Tip-a-Cop” fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse in Clovis. PPO Abeyta and Supervisor Lucero sold merchandise, while Curry County, NM Sheriff Michael Brockett and New Mexico State Police Officers collected generous tips from customers. Together, they raised an outstanding $4,209.00 for Special Olympics! 💪 But the giving didn't stop there! ✨ PPO Abeyta and Supervisor Lucero also sold raffle tickets, to support the upcoming Special Olympics Equestrian event in September. Their efforts resulted in an additional $200.00 raised. Throughout the day, community participants included members of our Clovis Adult Probation and Parole Office, Curry County Sheriff's Office, Clovis Fire Department, New Mexico State Police, Clovis Police Department, PPD Region V Taskforce, Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office, Curry County Detention Center, Cannon Airforce Base, and members of the New Mexico Special Olympics. Hats off to everyone involved for their dedication to making a positive impact in the community and our state! 🙌👏🙌 . . . #NewMexico #specialolympics #fundraising #communityengagement
