Enhancing the quality of life of the people of the Bering Straits Region
About us
Nome Community Center has been incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) since 1971, but its beginnings can be traced back to 1901 when it was founded as the Lavina Wallace Mission by the United Methodist Women. The mission of the Nome Community Center is to enhance the quality of life of the people of the Bering Straits Region through diverse programming serving elders, families and youth. We operate vital community programs including Nome Children's Home, XYZ Senior Center, the Nome Food Bank, Family Services, Nome Boys and Girls Club, Obesity Prevention, Tobacco Prevention and Alcohol Prevention. We collaborate with community agencies and forge partnerships to increase the capacity of Nome and the region to provide supportive services to its people. Nome Community Center is still strongly connected and supported by the United Methodist Women.
