🍷🥃🍻 Ontario’s Alcohol Market Shake-Up! 🍻🥃🍷 What a ride it has been for Ontario’s beverage alcohol consumers! The once monolithic market is in flux with the LCBO worker strike shutting down stores across the province and the upcoming liberalization of wine, beer, and ready-to-drink cocktail sales in September. Curious about how Ontarians are adapting? Our latest data from the newly expanded Numerator Canadian OmniPanel reveals all. Here's the scoop: 📈 Stock-Up Frenzy: On July 4th, the day before the strike began, Ontarians made 2.4X more trips for their favorite drinks compared to the same day in previous years. 📉 Spending Plunge: Since the strike began, beverage alcohol spending has dropped a staggering 85% compared to the same period last year. Fewer households are shopping for alcohol, and they’re making fewer trips. 🍻 Beer Dominates: With LCBO stores closed, beer has become the top choice. 58% of beverage alcohol purchasers are now buying beer, up 10 percentage points from last year. Wine purchases have dipped, with only 35% of buyers choosing wine compared to 45% last year. 🛒 Grocery Store Gains: In the past 10 days, grocery stores have emerged as the main destination for alcoholic beverages, capturing 57% of trips and 45% of sales, a significant increase from last year’s figures. It’s early days, and if the strike continues, we’ll see where Ontarians go next to restock their liquor cabinets. Stay tuned for more insights! #ConsumerTrends #OntarioAlcoholMarket #LCBOStrike #ConsumerBehaviour #MarketInsights
