“Water is an essential source to sustain life; it has a history of not only physical and chemical conditions but also of the planktonic microorganisms that reside in it. By learning more about microscopic life in water, we will better understand fluctuations in aquatic microbial life.” Check out this profile on Sade Davenport, a fellow with the IC Postdoc Program. Sade is using her degrees in biology, computer science, and engineering to conduct research at a computational system biology research laboratory. The Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS), as part of ORISE, maintains a collection of radiation emergency medicine resources that support the medical response to radiological/nuclear events and the treatment of individuals injured by ionizing radiation. REAC/TS has developed algorithms for medical management and radiation monitoring to highlight priorities in the medical cases of radiation victims. To assist emergency medical providers, REAC/TS has produced technical reports, videos and other resources to highlight priorities in the care of radiologically ill or injured patients. Reviewing and analyzing workforce demographics, employment trends and industry needs are critical for understanding how best to improve science education curriculum and advance research participation programs. The information gathered serves as a basis for addressing trends that may impact the missions of both government agencies and private industry partners alike. To address this need, ORISE produces studies that tie workforce trends to the impact of research participation programs, track new developments or changes in higher education and analyze critical shifts in the STEM workforce.
