Today, we’re making Kahini Shah a partner at Obvious Ventures. Sit in a room with Kahini for ten minutes, and your mind will explode with the possibilities of healthcare, robotics, and AI. Since she graduated from Carnegie Mellon in 2011, Kahini has always woven her passion into her work. “I didn't know the term “world positive” then, but I wanted to invest in companies with imagination and big ideas,” she said. Kahini brought her vast knowledge of AI to Obvious Ventures in 2022 and has led our investments in generative science, including the healthcare AI company GenHealth, a stealth AI agentic healthcare company, and a stealth open-source AI infrastructure company. In addition, Kahini currently sits on the boards of GenHealth and Darwin AI. “My biggest wins have been running at the pace AI is running at. Things are changing so fast, I’m ensuring we understand the impact and the potential risks.” Thank you, Kahini, for your relentless dedication, unwavering focus, and tireless energy. You bring so much to the team, and it’s a pleasure to work alongside you. 👏

Learn all about how AI will unlock scientific potential beyond our wildest dreams — and a fact about the Apple Newton you probably didn't know — on this episode of Sand Hill Road, where Scott McGrew hosts our co-founder, James Joaquin, to discuss the immense possibilities of generative science. Think about an AI that suggests experiments for us to test the hypothesis it came up with. One that can search across these huge scientific search spaces like the periodic table, proteins, or messenger RNA. Those spaces are so large, no human scientist, no human brain can explore all those possibilities. But modern AI is really good at finding patterns and matches that no human would ever find in a million years.
SO much science this week with Obvious Ventures on Sand Hill Road - the podcast. https://lnkd.in/g-39Yew7

We are at the dawn of a new era in science—the AI era. AI is being used across every discipline to unlock previously impossible pursuits. James Joaquin sat down with Ahinoam Pollack, Jakob Uszkoreit, and Kahini Shah, three amazing minds on the cutting edge of generative science, to discuss where it’s going.
Generative science will be labeled humanity’s greatest invention because it will be an invention that can invent. I spoke with three of the top minds in generative science, Ahinoam Pollack, Jakob Uszkoreit, and Kahini Shah, about its potential and what might happen next.

It’s been seven years to the day since Jakob Uszkoreit, along with eight Google researchers, published their groundbreaking 2017 paper Attention is All You Need. In the paper, the authors described a novel machine learning model architecture called Transformer that was later used in popular applications including OpenAI’s Chat-GPT. Since then, Jakob has realized he wanted to apply these AI models to science and use this groundbreaking technology to solve some of the biggest questions in biomedicine. And he has done just that with Inceptive. They are leveraging generative science to discover new mRNA combinations and create vaccines.
We are proud to support Jakob Uszkoreit and the team at Inceptive. Their work is bilingual in the languages of biology and computer science, and they are building AI models to produce new mRNA therapies. https://lnkd.in/gneEYtf9
