“We live in a very goals-driven society,” says Zarmina Khan, MEd, RP, a psychotherapist with Bloom Psychology & Wellness. “We go to school, we go to work, we’re expected to grow and accomplish things. We have all these benchmarks of what a ‘successful’ life is supposed to look like.” And when we don’t meet those milestones when and how we want to, of course it can leave us feeling terrible. Whether you’re reeling from a specific mistake or just generally feeling lost or like you aren’t measuring up, here are some therapist-backed tips for shaking that failure feeling and getting back on track: https://lnkd.in/dEmMAR3s

Maybe you missed a work deadline, got too honest with a friend, or experienced a trauma. Now, here you are thinking about it over and over—even though you would very much like to get off this ride right now, please. 🤯 This experience is called rumination, or your brain’s obsessive replay of something pretty damn distressing. Ruminating can kill your mood, wreck your sleep, and impact your ability to get through the day. If you can relate, we spoke to mental health pros who explained more about what ruminating is, why it happens, and what to do about it. Read more here. ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dmb49QSQ

In a positive sign of the times, meditation has become an increasingly common practice for everyone from the corporate workforce to professional athletes. Could the benefits of meditating also extend to school-age children? Many people seem to think so. A recent survey found that 57% of US adults would support public school lessons on how to meditate (source: YouGov). It certainly seems like a more useful skill than algebra. 🤭 📥 For more mental health stats, subscribe to our newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/ezhKw4-m. No jargon. No judgments. By now, you’ve definitely heard of quiet quitting. 🔇 Maybe you saw the TikToks a while back, but it’s also possible you’ve witnessed quiet quitters out in the wild. Your colleague who doesn’t speak up in meetings much anymore, won’t pick up tasks outside their job description, or comes in later and leaves earlier than they used to—yeah, that’s textbook quiet quitting. Perhaps you’re considering a do-less kind of mindset shift at your job too. If you’re thinking about pulling way back at work (or already started the process), these five Qs linked here can help you troubleshoot your situation and take action: https://lnkd.in/dm2Y55py You might have more options than you think. 💭

Hi, all! It can feel awkward or uncomfortable to date when you’re sober or just choose not to drink. But, if you consider yourself good at navigating dating while NOT drinking, I'd love to hear from you for an upcoming Wondermind article. The callout: --> What convo-starters, boundaries, or other things have made dating while sober easier? (No tip is too small!) If you'd like to contribute a tip or two based on your personal experience, please fill out the below survey by Thursday (6/20) morning: https://lnkd.in/erjXaW4a OR, send me your answer if surveys aren't your thing: sam.brodsky@wondermind.com Thanks, all!

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we hosted an evening of feelings-focused arts & crafts at Happy Medium in celebration of our new monthly digest, Lonely Together, a monthly newsletter for anyone craving more connection. Each exercise was centered around expressing your feelings—think air-dry clay to relieve stress, collaging to help clear your head and get unstuck, oil pastels for a mind massage, and charcoal to let out those dark feelings. We created this newsletter because, well, we’re all lonely. And we wanted a space to talk about it—with each other and experts—so we can figure out why that is and how to do something about it. What is an empath, exactly? 🤔 On the surface (aka social media), it seems like an empath is someone who deeply feels what other people are feeling. If your friend is crying, you’re fighting off tears. If your boss is anxious as f*ck for reasons that have nothing to do with you, you’re on edge. If the checkout guy at CVS is being Karen-ed by the person ahead of you in line, you get mad too. Whether you identify with the label of or not, here’s what a few mental health pros say about what it really means to be an empath, whether it’s a real thing, and how to deal if you can’t stop feeling other people's feelings: https://lnkd.in/dBADzFcs
