We're excited to announce that we've hired Sarah Scagliotti as our new Program Executive of Youth Development! 🎉 Sarah brings diverse experience in children’s mental health, outdoor leadership, and youth programming. Growing up in Michigan, she discovered her passion for working with young people while teaching ski and snowboard camps during high school. This early experience sparked a lifelong dedication to enriching youth experiences, leading her to assume leadership roles in outdoor recreation and education around the country. She earned her bachelor’s degree in outdoor leadership and later earned her master’s degree from Oregon State University in mental health counseling. Before joining the Y, she worked closely with families in Jefferson County as a children’s mental health therapist. During her tenure, she deeply appreciated the support of community resources and found the Y’s youth programs and services to be invaluable. She's thrilled to be part of the Y’s dynamic team dedicated to strengthening communities through accessible, inclusive programs and services. Welcome to the Y, Sarah!

It is a bittersweet moment for us as we announce that Sarah Hinis, our Program Executive of Youth Development, will be moving to Vancouver with her family very soon. Her last day at the Y will be July 19th. Sarah was hired in 2021 as child care director for the YMCA of Port Angeles and quickly rose to Program Executive of Youth Development overseeing all child care, youth enrichment, and youth programming. Sarah Hinis has been instrumental in providing quality child care on the Olympic Peninsula and has been directly involved with the building of the Y's Early Learning Center in Port Angeles and 7th Haven child care in Port Townsend. She was recently appointed to the Washington Association for the Education of Young Children board where she will help ensure kids ages 0-5 years old are in quality education programs. Sarah says, "It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Program Executive of Youth Development for the Y and to work with the local community to provide quality child care programming. All of the friendships and connections that I have created I will continue to carry with me." Thank you Sarah for all your contributions and leadership over the years, we will miss you!! ❤️ We have an amazing person to replace her position, but you will have to visit this page again tomorrow for that announcement 😉

June 6th: It’s 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧’𝙨 𝘿𝙖𝙮! On this date in 1844, George Williams and 11 other young men held a meeting in London that would lead to the founding of the YMCA. For 180 years, the Y has worked to strengthen communities –creating the first group swim classes, spearheading the first English as a Second Language (ESL) class and addressing chronic disease through programs like the Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program. 🎉
