Why Hospice?
Hospice allows a care team that consist of Nurses, Hospice aides, Chaplain, Social Worker, Nurse Practitioner and a Medical Director to work together to help provide cares and quality of life for patient and families.
One experience and program we put in place at Ovation Hospice is our “Miracle Day”.
What does that mean? It means giving one of our patients a day all about them, highlighting their joys, expertise, or former life experiences.
We are so lucky as a team to have Tiffany Skelton, as our Chaplain to utilize her years of experience in creating Miracle Day for our hospice patients.
Our first Ovation Hospice Miracle Day highlighted Beverly. Beverly was a very accomplished woman. At 18 years old, she got a job working with the Utah Supreme Court and continued her service for the Supreme Court Justices for years thereafter. Beverly had two children, both of whom had passed prior to her passing and she had lost herself amidst her health battles. During one of her nursing visits, her nurse noticed her glamour shot from when she was 18 years old. When she showed it to Beverly she lit up. Between nursing and our Chaplain a Miracle Day was started!
Ovation Hospice staff arrived to get Beverly glammed up in preparation for her glammer shot. To make it an even better experience Tiffany was able to contact Utah State Governor, Governor Cox who signed a letter to thank her for her many years of service.
Beverly smiled for two more days about her Miracle Day before she quietly started to transition to the next phase of her journey. In the words of her daughter in law, "thank you to Ovation Hospice and to the Auberge for giving her something to live for and remind her of who she is."
We are so grateful we had the opportunity and trust to care for such a wonderful and strong woman in her final days to ensure she knew how loved she is.
