Reimagining equity to build wealth for all.
About us
Ownership Works is a new nonprofit organization that partners with companies and investors to provide all employees with the opportunity to build wealth at work. Through partnerships, network-building, education, data, and storytelling, we’re inspiring a groundswell of interest among business leaders and investors to provide all employees with the opportunity to participate in the value they help create. Ownership Works brings together an unprecedented consortium of corporations, foundations, investors, labor advocates and pension funds that recognize the power of employee ownership to unlock new levels of success for companies while creating a pathway to wealth creation for workers. Through movement building and hands-on guidance, Ownership Works envisions a future in which broad-based employee ownership is the new norm at work. At scale, we believe employee ownership can help millions of lower-income workers and people of color build savings and wealth, often for the first time, at businesses that are more dynamic, resilient, and successful. In 2024, Ownership Works was certified as a Great Place To Work!

Employee wellbeing among workers under 35 fell in 2023 – the first time in about five years, according to Gallup’s newly published State of the Global Workplace for 2024 report. This troubling downturn in #employeewellbeing has numerous consequences. For companies, low employee wellbeing is associated with higher rates of #turnover, absenteeism, and loss of #productivity. It also harms the health and happiness of workers in their personal lives. The team at Ownership Works plays a pivotal role in our mission to advance #sharedownership as the new norm at work. We invite you to learn more about the staff members who drive this work in our new “Behind Ownership Works” series. We’re kicking off this series with our Founding Executive Director, Anna-Lisa Miller. "Leading Ownership Works is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had," Miller said. "We couldn’t ask for a better Founder, Board, team, and consortium of partners. This is employee ownership’s moment, and it's an honor and privilege to do this work!” Meet the rest of the team at Ownership Works: https://lnkd.in/e2azUrbs. #BehindOwnershipWorks

Companies can potentially save more than $1 million a year in preventable accidents by reducing financial stress among their workforce, according to a 2019 study by the University of Pittsburgh. Professor Carrie Leana's study – which surveyed a group of over 1,000 short-haul drivers – found that companies could save millions more if there is even one injury or fatality among their preventable accidents. What if every employee could directly share in the wealth creation they help drive? This transformative idea fuels Ownership Works, a nonprofit pioneering ethical leadership through broad-based employee stock ownership, as recently profiled on CBS’s 60 Minutes. Led by Council for Inclusive Capitalism member Peter Stavros, Ownership Works is restructuring businesses to integrate shared ownership, proving that a more equitable approach to capitalism is not only possible but beneficial for all. In the TED Talk shared below, Peter Stavros shares personal stories of his own journey, the profound impact of doing this work, and how business leaders can restructure their companies through this transformative model. Through ethical leadership, Stavros is helping companies realize the core promise of stakeholder capitalism—aligning employee, business, and societal interests rather than pitting them against each other. https://lnkd.in/d9SHikbn

Last week, Ownership Works’ Founding Executive Director, Anna-Lisa Miller, participated in a panel at Financial Health Network’s 2024 #EMERGE Conference in Chicago. The panel, “Making FinHealth the New Norm,” examined how emerging financial health solutions, like emergency savings and employee ownership models, are improving financial health in the workplace. Anna-Lisa Miller was joined by co-panelists Claire Chamberlain, Managing Director, Global Head of Social Impact at BlackRock, and Sarah Kalloch, Executive Director of Good Jobs Institute. The panel was moderated by Matthew Bahl, Vice President, Workplace Market Lead of Financial Health Network. Thank you to Financial Health Network for facilitating conversations about this incredibly important topic!
That's a wrap on #EMERGE #FinancialHealth in Chicago, our home town. Thank you to all our attendees and sponsors who immersed themselves in the past, present, and future of #finhealth this week. We look forward to what's ahead - let's build the future. #EMERGE2024

Low engagement among employees is the norm – not the exception – for most companies. But KKR and Ownership Works are championing a powerful approach to attracting and retaining employees at all levels of the company: investing in #EmployeeEngagement and #OwnershipCulture through shared ownership. While there is no rigid rulebook for creating an ownership culture, KKR has seen great outcomes follow from eight key practices, which they outline in their latest report, “Creating an Ownership Culture.” Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eTj7q2zF. #EmployeeOwnership
