Applying the word "pornography" gives the impression that revenge porn is consensual. Researchers, advocates and survivors have long preferred the term “image-based sexual abuse” to describe the variety of ways sexually explicit imagery can be weaponized. IBSA is a crime with real impact. The language we use about this abuse matters — and it can be changed. Thank you to The 19th for addressing this issue and naming The Reclaim Coalition as a resource! https://bit.ly/3y1E4yr

As the year of significant global elections continues, the United Kingdom has made significant strides towards gender parity in elected office. The newly formed cabinet will have the highest number of female ministers in the UK's history, including the first female chancellor ever. We know that when women lead, nations are transformed. Visit The Ascend Fund, powered by Panorama, to learn how we're accelerating the pace of change toward gender parity in U.S. politics. https://bit.ly/3zsimUI https://lnkd.in/gDi_fSzk

The United States now has 1,300 LGBTQ+ elected officials, and the number grows every election cycle! However, this number falls short of being representative of the LGBTQ+ community. While 7.6% of adults identify as LGBTQ+, less than 1% of elected officials in the U.S. identify the same. For the government to be fully representative, more than 35,000 LGBTQ+ individuals would need to be elected. Thanks LGBTQ+ Victory Institute, a partner of The Ascend Fund, for nurturing the next generation of LGBTQ+ public leaders and building a strong pipeline for the future. https://bit.ly/3VkxCKE

In the past decade, we've made great strides for LGBTQ+ equality. However, in the last two years, record amounts of legislation targeting LGBTQ+ rights have been proposed across the United States. This climate of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric is exacerbating the mental health crisis within the LGBTQ+ community, particularly among young people. The Upswing Fund for Adolescent Mental Health, powered by Panorama, has provided resources to organizations serving adolescents of color and LGBTQ+ youth, focusing on culturally responsive and affirming care. Today marks the one-year anniversary of The Reclaim Coalition - a global network uniting survivors, advocates, civil society, and tech for good partners to address all forms of online image-based sexual violence, including deepfake abuse. Last week, The Reclaim Coalition Director Andrea Powell and Panorama Global Senior Advisor Bradley Myles led a panel at Mozilla Festival Amsterdam, titled “Without Consent: How Philanthropy & Tech Can Stop Deepfake Abuse.” They were joined by four partners from The Reclaim Coalition to discuss the urgent need to address AI-fueled gender-based violence. Women and girls are overwhelming targeted by deepfake abuse, often with little to no access to justice or protection. The Reclaim Coalition and our network of partners are driving policy changes and holding technology accountable to support survivors. Join us in working towards a future where everyone can be freely and safely online. https://bit.ly/404BPE7 Listen to the MozFest panel: https://bit.ly/3VH0f6j
