  • Exciting Updates from the 2024 Florida Bar Convention I'm excited to share updates from the 2024 Florida Bar Convention, where I proudly represented PESC. It was an honor to be welcomed by committees focused on helping families and children. New Program Announcement! Aligned with Florida Section § 61.21, our enhanced DCF Parental Support Program offers tailored support for Florida families. A Personal Story: Taking your child to work day has been a tradition for many families, but what is it like when your child has a disability? My proud moment was reached when I attended the annual Florida Bar Convention representing PESC, and my daughter—who inspired the bill that amended the Florida Parenting Courses—got to attend with me. She finally participated in Take Your Child to Work Day. Together, we explored the convention, the importance of advocacy for families and children, and the many career opportunities available for children with disabilities. Encourage your clients to enroll in this valuable course for effective co-parenting and family stabilization. Direct them to PESC for the support they need. Special Needs and Emotional Concerns

  • Empathy in Co-Parenting: Essential for Families with Special Needs Children Navigating the complexities of co-parenting is challenging, more so when a child with special needs is involved. The need for empathy in such a situation cannot be overstated. As co-parents, understanding and acknowledging the unique challenges each parent faces in this journey is crucial. When parenting styles differ, especially in the context of special needs parenting, the stakes are higher. A child with a disability often requires more consistent, specialized attention and care, making the alignment of parenting approaches even more critical. It's not just about ensuring that both parents are on the same page regarding day-to-day care, but also about providing emotional stability and understanding. Empathy in co-parenting involves a deep appreciation of the other parent's struggles, fears, and efforts. It's about stepping into their shoes and viewing the parenting journey from their perspective, even when it's drastically different from your own. This understanding is vital for creating a supportive environment for your child, where their needs are not just met, but where they also feel loved and understood by both parents. In cases of divorce or separation, where one parent might not fully grasp the intricacies of caring for a special needs child, empathy becomes even more crucial. It's about guiding and educating each other, building a bridge over the gap of misunderstanding, and fostering a cooperative spirit. Empathy also extends to the child, who might be more sensitive to the emotional undercurrents of their parents. They need to feel secure and confident in the love and support of both parents, regardless of their living arrangements or the nature of the parents' relationship. In the end, co-parenting with empathy, particularly in the context of a child with a disability, is about creating a nurturing, understanding, and stable environment. It's about putting the child's needs and well-being at the forefront, ensuring that despite the challenges, they have the strong foundation they need to thrive. • Empowering Families Through Transition I'm Raquel Soto-Catalano. I founded PESC and drafted a crucial bill which amended Family Law Section § 61.21, all to support families dealing with divorce and children with disabilities. Navigating divorce is tough, especially for families with special needs. That's where PESC steps in - offering guidance, resources, and a unique online curriculum approved by the DFC. We focus on cooperative co-parenting and family well-being, tailored for the challenges of divorce and disability. Thanks to Florida's legislators, our combined efforts are changing lives. PESC's mission, deeply personal to me, is now a signal of hope for many across Florida. Join us in our journey to empower and uplift families. Every bit of support helps build a stronger, more hopeful community. Visit our website: https://lnkd.in/e3sTXErb
