🚀Evolving Priorities: Ursula von der Leyen's 2019 vs. 2024 Priorities 🚀 This morning, Ursula von der Leyen underscored a significant shift in the European Commission's focus compared to the past five years. The attached graph, elaborated by Penta, illustrates this evolution in priorities. 🔍 Defence and security mentions have surged, reflecting current geopolitical tensions. There's also a notable increase in references to energy, underlining an increasing focus on energy security alongside the green transition. Climate-related terms continue to be of relevance, suggesting a continuing commitment to environmental sustainability and the European Green Deal. 🌍 After the European Parliament voted to elect her for a second term, von der Leyen secured 401 votes in favour which was enough to elect her President of the European Commission. Today marked the first state opening of parliament under a Labour government in 15 years. Key takeaways from the analysis include: 🔷 Keir Starmer's Labour Party manifesto is the most moderate since Tony Blair's in 1997. Starmer and Blair are the only leaders to have led Labour to a general election victory in recent memory. 🔷 Manifestos reveal continuity in Labour's priorities over time, particularly regarding housing and the National Health Service (NHS). But who are the Labour MPs who seem set for an almost-certain landslide victory? What will this mean for companies operating in the UK? To determine this, it's crucial to get to know its Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) and what they will stand for in government. To do so, Penta has conducted an in-depth analysis of the public views and campaigns of nearly 150 Labour PPCs throughout 2023 to shed light on the future direction of a Labour government and the motivations of its MPs.
