How many "dormant ties" do you have in your network? When it comes to networking, we've all been in a situation where we're just not sure where to start. But sometimes networking is about getting the ball rolling. We particularly love the idea here about reaching out to people you know but might not have spoken with in a while. Activating those "dormant ties" can get us back into the practice of connecting with one another and give us confidence to make connections with new professionals. For students, a great example of this could be professors. Encourage students to reconnect with teachers from their previous classes and maintain those relationships over time. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02z7VxH0

"The biggest reason people engage with their alma mater is community. They were a part of the community when they were at the institution, and they’ve been able to stay connected to that community in a variety of ways since they graduated. So, you get connections to alums from different decades, just knowing that they had a shared commonality of experiences." Great insight into the state of alumni relations from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education published in US News & World Report. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02yqYtN0

"I think that there's this trend toward taking a step back and really thinking about what they want to do, and if it is college, thinking more critically about ‘Why college?’, and ‘College for what?’” For the last few weeks, we've been following along with EdSurge as they present a series titled "Doubting College." This series looks at how high schools students are approaching the decision around their future. And instead of just automatically pursuing #highered, they are taking a more critical look at this decision than past generations. These pieces illustrate the idea that colleges and universities need to really focus on demonstrating to high school students how they drive post-graduation outcomes that make the investment worth it. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02xBhvm0

Experiential Learning is a game changer for students and institutions - since my days designing service-learning projects in the classroom, to short-term study abroad programs in Russia, and to online project-based experiential learning - each opportunity develops skills-based learning that integrates curriculum knowledge with collaborative, human interactive power skills. So excited to share this article on Experiential Learning! https://lnkd.in/gHp3Ea_e #wgu #experientiallearning #skills #highered #theevolllution #PeopleGrove

A great piece from Harvard Business Review to share with students and alumni navigating their careers. The best road trips are usually the ones where you take a random detour you didn't plan for. And when you tell your friends the stories from your road trip after it's over, isn't the one about the random detour the best one?! This is a great way to think about careers. It's rarely point A to point B with zero interruptions. It's all sorts of twists and turns that may or may not be planned for. Approaching the journey with this mindset helps you not only be prepared for the inevitable shifts, but also helps you make the most of them. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02wQcBc0
