About us
(Dial 911 for emergencies) The Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services (EMS) to the City of Philadelphia. We are the largest fire department in Pennsylvania, with one of the busiest EMS divisions in the country. Members of the Fire Department fight fires, provide emergency medical treatment, and rescue people from dangerous situations. Our engines, ladders, and ambulances are housed at 63 stations across the City. We have specialized divisions that investigate fires, deal with hazardous materials, and help protect Philadelphia International Airport. We also teach the public about fire safety and work to prevent fires through smoke alarm installation.

Foxtrot 7 has made a smooth landing at Engine 78 - that's our Airport Rescue Fire Fighting unit located at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). F7 is a type of vehicle called a crash truck, and it looks different from most fire trucks because it's built specifically to respond to aircraft emergencies. Our members began their training on it last week. #24x7x365

We wish you the best of luck in your next endeavor. We also want to congratulate First Deputy Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson, who's stepped into the Acting Commissioner role for now. #PFDStrongerTogether

Congratulations to Paramedic Sofia Oakes - the 2024 EMS Provider of the Year! Oakes is recognized for her quick actions to help a patient who was stuck in an elevator and having a medical emergency. Paramedic Oakes was harnessed and lowered 40 floors in an elevator shaft to access the patient and begin providing advanced life support (ALS) care while the rest of the team continued to work on extricating the patient from the elevator. Paramedic Oakes, we applaud your actions and thank you for your continued dedication to service. #PFDstrongertogether #EMSWeek2024 #EMSWeek
