US mortgage originations (of all types - for the purchase of a home, home improvement, refi, etc.) - came in at 5,685,171 loans for 2023 per the just-released #HMDA data. As everyone in the industry knows, this was a tough year for mortgage: not only was the 2023 level down 32% from 2022, but there has not been a year this low from 2000 forward. As everyone in the industry knows, this was a tough year for mortgage: not only was the 2023 level down 32% from 2022, but there has not been a year this low from 2000 forward.
