What Youth Sports Can Be
About us
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) works to be a catalyst for a positive youth sports culture in all communities across the U.S. We believe all youth can benefit from a positive, inclusive sports culture that develops social and emotional skills, molds character and prepares them for competition and for life. PCA resources, which have reached more than 9 million youth, strives to transform high school and youth sports into a Development Zone™ culture, where the goal is to develop Better Athletes, Better People and the following become the prevailing models in youth and high school sports: 1) The Double-Goal Coach®, who strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports 2) The Second-Goal Parent®, who concentrates on life lessons, while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing 3) The Triple-Impact Competitor®, who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the game as a whole. PCA gains support from a National Advisory Board, including National Spokesperson and 11-time NBA Champion Coach Phil Jackson, and many other top coaches, athletes, organization leaders and academics who share PCA’s mission. PCA was founded in Stanford's Athletic Department in 1998 and currently provides programming in all 50 states.

State of New York announced $4.2 million in grants for youth team sports programming, education & equipment in underserved New York City neighborhoods. Recipients include organizations supporting girls sports, nonbinary youth, and youth with special needs. The funding is part of a larger investment in youth sports programming statewide. A total of $15 million is available across two funding sources under the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). In New York City, sports funding will create opportunities for young people under 18 years old in: * Historically under-resourced communities. * Neighborhoods that experience higher rates of crime and violence and low-performing schools. * Communities with high rates of public housing and/or family homelessness. * Marginalized communities or groups with higher barriers to participation in team sports (e.g., youth with disabilities; girls; transgender/gender non-binary youth; and youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or questioning). Team sports and activities include volleyball, breakdancing, football, cheerleading, swimming, lacrosse, skateboarding, pickleball, basketball, baseball, soccer, cricket, figure skating, golf, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and bowling.

Meet Cobie Lee, a high school weightlifting and softball coach from Florida. After teaching getting her degree in physical education, she taught PE for ten years before moving to coach high schoolers. Lee knows that being a great coach means inspiring her teams to grow beyond their current abilities. "Having the chance to see girls being able to reach goals that they didn’t think they could achieve... It’s fun to coach because you see huge growth." Read more at https://tmsnp.co/4eSG0tR.

Surprise, surprise — I'm a fan of pickleball (although I'm still learning)! I've been with Pickleball Cares for the past year, and as part of our programs and initiatives, we've been hosting high-quality youth clinics all over the nation alongside Major League Pickleball. Our non-profit believes in providing kids with opportunities for physical and mental well-being, and pickleball is the perfect sport for that. It's low impact, and the barriers to entry are lower than other sports. To make a real impact, we target underserved communities, working to introduce the game and support court construction and revitalization. At each clinic, we provide kids with their very own paddle, which they can then take home to continue playing. Anyways...this is a celebratory post! As of yesterday, Pickleball Cares has successfully hosted a clinic with 100% turnout! Over 50 kids and their parents joined us at Grand Rapids Pickleball. Thank you to our partners, pickleball instructors, sponsors, and donors for making this happen. Without your support, we wouldn't be able to do what we do.
