Weekly recap! The Purple Squirrel team kicked off the week with a company strategy meeting. We reviewed our successes, strengths, and areas of opportunity from the first six months of the year. Additionally, we discussed some exciting new business services, and we look forward to sharing more details soon! We also had the pleasure of a hosting a Women CFO Now Roundtable at the Purple Squirrel office. It was a morning filled with laughter and fantastic conversations as a dynamic group of female business leaders discussed business challenges, shared ideas, and strengthened connections. Meaghan Brown represented Purple Squirrel Advisors at BDO's monthly Detroit Dealmakers meeting where local business leaders networked, shared market insights, and discussed business trends. We also had the pleasure of gathering as a team to celebrate Natasha Nestorovski's birthday! We met at one of our favorite local spots, J. Alexander's Restaurants, where we were compelled to leave a five star review after identifying the best dessert in Metro Detroit... their carrot cake! #weeklyrecap #strategysession #newbusinessventures #networking #teambuilding

I sometimes joke that recruiting would be a great business if we didn’t have to deal with so many people. It really is a joke, but it underscores the difficulty that I think people underestimate at times. Recruiting isn’t as simple as finding a resume and sending it over to the company. There are people on both sides of the table, and every process is a learning experience. What goes into a successful hiring process? A lot! Defining the Job Scope Properly: This is where it all begins, and we are often deeply involved in this critical step. The CFO position at one company can be very different from the same title at their competitor down the street. Different needs, different projects, technical skills, and soft skills all come into play. It’s essential to understand these nuances to find the right fit. Research, Sourcing, and Recruiting: This step is extremely time intensive. We may ultimately spend dozens of hours on this step for a single position. We don’t just “post and pray” that the right applicants will apply to our jobs. Instead, we actively seek out the best candidates. This means utilizing various tools and platforms, networking, and reaching out to passive candidates who aren’t actively looking but might be a perfect fit. We market the position compellingly to open a dialogue and generate interest. In my next post, I’ll dive into the nuances of screening, interviewing, and the offer stage, where the real magic—and sometimes frustration—happens. For now, what are your thoughts on the complexities of defining job scopes and sourcing candidates? Where have you seen things go wrong in these steps, and what are some best practices that you have found?  I'd love to hear your experiences and thoughts in the comments below!
