QuinStar Technology, Inc. is excited to share that less than a month after its launch on May 29, 2024, ESA’s EarthCARE satellite has returned its first image on June 13 from the W-band (94 GHz) Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR) instrument (Image Credit: JAXA/NICT/ESA). This image, provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), reveals the internal structure and dynamics of clouds from space for the first time, enhancing our understanding and prediction of climate changes. QuinStar Technology, Inc. contributed five key W-band active components to the Transmit-Receive Front-end System of this radar: - Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) - Active Frequency Multiplier - Medium Power Driver Amplifier - Mixers for the Upconverter and Downconverter These components enabled the Cloud Profiling Radar to measure cloud density, distribution, and vertical speed of ice, snow, and rain with unprecedented accuracy. Our advanced W-band products, including High Power Solid-State Power Amplifiers (SSPA), continue to push the boundaries of atmospheric satellite-based instruments. EarthCARE’s sophisticated instruments, working alongside the CPR, provide a comprehensive understanding of how clouds and aerosols interact with solar and thermal radiation, crucial for studying climate change.
