The labor market took a breather in June, easing some of the worries about wage inflation and making a rate cut more likely in the coming months. Friday's job report highlighted an uptick in the unemployment rate to just over 4.1%, the highest since November 2021. But don't worry—this increase mainly comes from more people rejoining the workforce, pushing the labor force participation rate up by 0.1% to 62.6%. Even better, the participation rate for the prime-age group (25-54) climbed to 83.7%, a level we haven't seen since the early 2000s. On the job creation front, while the economy added a solid 206,000 jobs in June, the previous two months saw downward revisions totaling 111,000 jobs, indicating a softer market than initially thought.
