Nevada is experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases this summer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more than 10% of all tests are coming back positive, so it's especially important now to protect yourself and others from this wave of the virus. Here are some ways you can do that:    - Stay up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccine boosters.  - Wear a mask if you are feeling sick, or stay home and distance yourself from others.  - Make hygiene a top priority, including washing your hands regularly and sanitizing commonly used surfaces.  - If you test positive for COVID-19, you may want to speak to your provider about treatment options, including Paxlovid, a prescription that helps treat mild-to-moderate symptoms.    Learn more about how you can help stop the spread and where to get a test or a vaccine at renown.org/COVID. 

Sophie's Place, our transformative music therapy room designed to integrate the healing power of music into healthcare, opened for patients and families at Renown Children’s Hospital on Monday. A special delivery just arrived at Renown Children's Hospital! An autographed purple guitar signed by Taylor Swift is now on display at Sophie's Place, our transformative music therapy room designed to integrate the healing power of music into our youngest patients' care plans by using evidence-based music therapy.    We are ecstatic to have the musical energy of Taylor in our very own Sophie’s Place, the first of its kind in our community. Certified music therapists will offer both group and individual music therapy sessions to help patients achieve therapeutic goals and improve the quality of life for children of all ages and abilities.    Sophie’s Place officially opens for patients and families on Monday, July 15. Here at Renown, we know that food is medicine. When Jeromy Hughes became one of the 29 nursing students accepted into the first Gerald “Jerry” Smith Academic-Practice Partnership cohort, he almost couldn’t believe it. Life as both an Orvis School of Nursing student and a future nurse in our community was about to change. Not only was he about to receive full tuition support, but he also was set up for a guaranteed start to his career as a nurse at Renown Health.    Named in honor of Jerry Smith of the Nell J. Redfield Foundation and supported by a generous gift from the Redfield Foundation and Stephanie Kruse, Foundation Board Director, the goal of the Academic-Practice Partnership is to help foster a lasting nursing workforce in northern Nevada, with nurses like Jeromy leading the charge.
