Freedom from Domestic Violence

About us

One in three Texas women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, but SafeHaven exists to provide freedom. SafeHaven is the only state designated family violence center in Tarrant County. Over our 45+ year history, we’ve never strayed from our mission: to end domestic violence in Tarrant County. Everything we do is with the end goal of providing freedom for survivors of domestic violence. SafeHaven works to end domestic violence in a two-fold manner: 1. Keep victims safe 2. Hold offenders accountable We are here to take care of the most vulnerable, to keep them safe, and to serve them wherever they are on their journey to escape domestic violence. Our services aren’t one-size-fits-all - that’s why we provide robust resources from shelter and transitional housing, to counseling and legal aid. We want to meet survivors where they are. As part of our lifelong mission, we also feel an obligation to bring change across the board - change the distribution of power in relationships, change where the blame lies, and change how the system responds. We will not stop until every woman in Tarrant County feels safe in her relationship.

SafeHaven board member, volunteer, and former client, Audria Tamez Maltsberger, was featured on NBC News with Lester Holt in response to the US v. Rahimi decision! Nearly 20 years ago, Audria and her children fled abuse at home to come stay at SafeHaven’s shelter. Her family used all of our survivor resources, including shelter, housing, legal aid, and more, and today, Audria is SAFE, happy, and a fierce advocate for survivors. We are so proud of her, and so thankful for the positive #SCOTUS decision!

  • 🎉 We're celebrating BIG today. 🎉 This morning, the Supreme Court affirmed in its US v. Rahimi decision that domestic violence offenders 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 have a constitutional right to own firearms. Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to support survivors and advocate for safety and justice. While there is still work to be done, today marks a significant step forward in our work to create a safe place for survivors to exist.

Each of our shelters serve thousands of women and children each year, and thanks to Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, families fleeing abuse will have a comfortable and SAFE place to call home during their biggest time of need. We’re so thankful to have generous neighbors like Arlington Tomorrow Foundation!

  • We're so proud to announce that our very own Lindsay Zehentbauer, M. Ed. and the SafeHaven Social Enterprise program was named a finalist for the D CEO Magazine Nonprofit Awards in the Social Enterprise category! 🎉🎉 SafeHaven's Social Enterprise program has two key components: 1. Berry Good Buys Resale Store 2. A new program that utilizes the agency's professional experts to provide educational opportunities and other resources to local, state and national agencies for a fee. Both efforts have grown leaps and bounds under Lindsay's leadership and generate lifesaving funding so we can continue offering all of our survivor resources free of charge for families seeking help. Please help us congratulate Lindsay on her incredible work! The award recipient will be announced in late July.
