Bringing physical and spiritual aid to hurting people worldwide.

About us

Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. For 40 years, Samaritan's Purse has done our utmost to follow Christ's command by going to the aid of the world's poor, sick, and suffering. We are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ. This, in turn, earns us a hearing for the Gospel, the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Our emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. Our community development and vocational programs in impoverished villages and neighborhoods help people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow. We impact the lives of vulnerable children through educational, feeding, clothing, and shelter programs that let them know they are not forgotten. We provide first-class treatment in the Name of the Great Physician through our medical projects, as well as supplying mission hospitals with much needed equipment and supplies.

Today, Samaritan’s Purse airlifted a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and over 24 tons of life-saving supplies to the Caribbean on our DC-8 Cargo Plane in response to Hurricane Beryl. Over the weekend, we prepped for the storm's potentially catastrophic impact by preparing our equipment, supplies and team. By noon today, the DC-8 took off to Grenada with 13 members of our DART along with 600 rolls of tarp, 3,000 solar lights, a desalination unit, 300 collapsible jerry cans, and a mobile medical unit. “Hurricane Beryl pummeled the Windward Islands, and left thousands of families in need of emergency relief,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “We started building out pallets of cargo before the hurricane even made landfall and are now on the way with life-saving aid. Please join me in praying for the families who are in the path of this storm, and for our Samaritan’s Purse staff who will be serving them.” As our team assesses the hardest-hit areas and provides aid to those in need, please keep them in your prayers. Most importantly, pray for the families devastated by this catastrophic storm and that they would know God loves them and has not forgotten them during this incredibly difficult time. Looking out over the coastal hillside where Carriacou’s hospital had operated just weeks before, the neatly rowed white tents of the Samaritan’s Purse Emergency Field Hospital stand out starkly against the desolate landscape of Carriacou. For the more than 200 patients we have cared for so far, our team has been busy treating infections, supplying critical medications, and showing those on the island that they do not have to go through this alone. Without these services, many others would have died from infection, hypertension, and more. But we aren’t working alone. Our field hospital is providing support to the local medical community, many of whom are grieving their own losses. Our work will help stem the tide as the local hospital and staff restore capacity in the area. “We are very grateful that we have the field hospital,” said Sherrien, a staff member of Carriacou’s medical system. “It has been a buffer for our system while we refurbish the hospital. We’re very grateful for all the help that we can get. We are thankful to God. God is a merciful God. And I think that even though the buildings have gone down, the people are still together.” Learn More: https://sampur.se/4cH46q7

Hurricane Beryl slammed into southeast Texas during the early hours of Monday, July 8, bringing tornado-like winds and unloading waves of rain on the area. After the storm had swept over the Caribbean and the Yucatan Peninsula, warm Gulf waters recharged the storm and sent it spiraling ferociously towards Texas as a Category 1 hurricane. Beryl did not hit like the usual Category 1 storm though, according to survivors. The hurricane released torrential rains, flooding many Texas communities with over a foot of water. Cere Muscarella is the senior pastor of Life Foursquare Church, a church that hosted Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief teams in 2016. He emphasized how unexpected Beryl’s strength was for people in the area. He then said, “It just ripped through here, we still don’t know what the wind velocities really were. But the damage was way beyond a Category 1. When we got up in the morning, at light of dawn, it was like a war zone.” Monday night, after the storm passed, Pastor Cere got a call from Todd Taylor, manager of U.S. Disaster Relief for Samaritan’s Purse. We were able to swiftly respond in Brazoria County by coming alongside Life Foursquare Church and volunteers, equipping them to offer disaster relief in Jesus’ Name to their neighbors. Pastor Cere described the quick response of Samaritan’s Purse as “evidence of the Lord’s orchestration” in the wake of the hurricane. So far, scores of volunteers have already begun resolving nearly 600 requests for help in the county, letting homeowners know they are not alone and God cares for them. Please pray for families affected by the storm as they begin the long road to recovery. Pray for God to call volunteers to help in Brazoria County, Texas, in Jesus’ Name. Pray that men and women would hear and respond positively to the Gospel. https://sampur.se/462mA1J

As our response to Hurricane Beryl continued to expand over the past week, extending relief to multiple islands, Samaritan’s Purse worked through faithful church partners. These Christian leaders on the island, pastors and others who’ve worked with Operation Christmas Child, added invaluable speed to our efforts by connecting us quickly with the greatest needs and the best ways to meet them. They helped conduct training for their congregations, weighed in on distribution plans, and multiplied our opportunities for sharing the love of Jesus Christ, though they themselves were facing their own losses and exhaustion. This is how we met Lenora. Our teams brought her shelter tarp, hygiene kits, and other supplies, along with the compassion and patience that her grieving heart needed in that moment. “God sent you guys here, and God opened a way that you could come and give to us,” Lenora expressed. “We just thank God for life, because with Him all things are possible.” Though heartbroken and only now allowing themselves to begin grieving, the many islanders like Lenora acknowledge God’s presence, even while standing in the rubble of where their homes had been. As our team walked away, we heard Lenora whisper this: “I prayed that God would send us a Good Samaritan, and He has.” To read the full story, visit our website below: https://sampur.se/3S5qzEI

Samaritan's Purse deployed a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and sent multiple DC-8 flights to the island of Grenada, carrying much-needed relief supplies, an emergency field hospital, and, most importantly, the hope found only in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Kristy Graham talked with Kaitlyn Josten, who was on board the initial flight to Grenada, about what she saw during the first wave of this response. Check out the latest episode of the podcast which goes in depth about Samaritan's Purse responding to the Caribbean in the wake of Hurricane Beryl. https://sampur.se/45X61Ep

Operation Christmas Child volunteers demonstrate God’s love to children in need. In one city in Asia, brutal fighting left homes and businesses in ruins and caused the death of dozens of citizens. When an Operation Christmas Child team in a less affected area heard of the devastation, they quickly sprang into action. Within a few days, they were on their way to deliver 100 gift-filled shoeboxes to bring God's comfort and love to traumatized boys and girls in the heart of the conflict zone. Since 1993, Samaritan's Purse has blessed 220 million children in need in 170 countries and territories with an Operation Christmas Child shoebox and the Good News of God's love. You can help make this possible for another boy or girl and pack a shoebox today! Please join us in prayer as we pray over every box and that God is able to work through these young children using these gifts. We pray God will transform these children’s hearts.
