DEW staff had the opportunity to attend and participate in SC Rural Transit Day last week, a comprehensive day-long event dedicated to championing the interests of South Carolina’s rural communities by aiming to address the distinctive transportation challenges they face while fostering connections to alleviate existing disparities and inequities. DEW’s Assistant Executive Director of Workforce Development, Nina Staggers, was a presenting speaker and panelist, discussing rural transit and the future of South Carolina. Also participating in the day on behalf of DEW were Senior Analyst to the Coordinating Council for Workforce Development Robert Davis, who provided lunchtime remarks, and Workforce Initiatives Coordinator Shelanda Deas, who served on the event’s planning committee. Additional staff in attendance were Valerie McMellan, Deputy General Counsel and Equal Opportunity Officer, and law clerks, Sam Hurwitz and Mary Ragan Clark. It was a great day of collaboration and knowledge sharing!
