We join the San Diego community in mourning the loss of Dea Hurston, a theatre advocate and member of a three-generation Girl Scout family. Dea was committed to advancing inclusion and diversity efforts by focusing on mentoring women, providing children with access to the arts, and employing artists of color. In 2018, she was named a Girl Scouts San Diego's Cool Women Honoree.    We are grateful for her dedication to opening doors for young girls, specifically from communities of color, and admire the legacy she leaves in our region! 💚

To address the ever-present threat of wildfires in southern California, Girl Scouts San Diego is taking preventative steps in partnership with the San Diego River Conservancy (SDRC).🌳 We are excited to introduce you to the final phase of our vegetation plan: the installation of an emergency generator at the Camp Winacka water treatment plant.💧 This enhancement will establish the camp as a pivotal emergency response center for the Julian, CA region, ensuring continuous access to safe drinking water for CalFire during local power outages.💡 Learn more about our vegetation treatment plan and partnership with SDRC at https://lnkd.in/grZcnEzc.

This morning, our CEO Carol Dedrich and A-Trrop Girl Scouts attended the 3rd Annual Celebration of America at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, in collaboration with the Spirit of Liberty Foundation. 🗽 This celebration recognizes our everyday heroes (first responders, teachers, veterans, pastors, doctors, nurses, etc) who were in attendance to read the Declaration of Independence; Girl Scouts and Scouting America scouts who read the signers/states; American Revolution re-enactors; singing; and the Ringing of America’s Freedom Bell. ⭐️ Thank you for inviting our girls to attend this special event! Hope everyone is having a safe and fun Independence Day 🇺🇸

We loved welcoming Neda Iranpour to our Julian camp properties earlier this month to talk about our forestry management plan with Director of Property, Eric Williams for a CBS 8 San Diego Earth8 report. 🌲 Check out the segment to learn more about our efforts, see the air curtain burners in action, and discover how we’re leading the way in fuel reduction as the first non-government organization in San Diego County use permitted air curtain burners. ✨      Thank you to the San Diego River Conservancy (SDRC) for helping to fund a portion of this work to keep our camps safe and our forest healthy! 🌿 Learn more about our vegetation treatment plan and partnership with SDRC at https://lnkd.in/gE9MBzYc

Congratulations to Gold Award Girl Scout Aliza for receiving the 2024 GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship! 🥳 Aliza’s project, “Slowing Down Fast Fashion with Natural Dyes,” exemplified the core components of the Gold Award and demonstrated remarkable leadership in driving meaningful change within her community and beyond.🎖️ Her goal was to raise awareness about sustainable fashion and the slow fashion movement, with a focus on educating and empowering teenagers.👕 Aliza organized workshops at a summer camp, a local farm, and her high school, where she taught participants how to create natural dyes from kitchen scraps or native plants.🌿 Megan Freeman from Coastal Roots Farm, Aliza’s community partner organization, noted that her project enhanced their offerings by providing enriching, farm-based programming for teens and information on using natural dyes for future programs. Way to go Aliza! 🎉 To learn more about the GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship, visit https://lnkd.in/eQAQQ9JU.
