This year, the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program is celebrating its 50th anniversary! Since its inception, IHSS has helped thousands of Californians live independently and safely in their own homes. At SFHSA, IHSS is the largest program in our Department of Disability & Aging Services, meeting the caregiving needs of over 27,000 clients. Over the past year, we significantly expanded the work of our Collaborative Caregiver Support Team to identify residents in Permanent Supportive Housing who could benefit from home care. By connecting them to IHSS, we helped stabilize residents’ housing and improve their health outcomes. With these essential services, our most vulnerable SF residents can remain in the community setting of their choice. Thank you to all our IHSS staff who show immense dedication and compassion to our clients day in and day out. 👉 Check out this video to hear about the impact of IHSS: https://lnkd.in/dzFEyuPj

This #DisabilityPrideMonth we reaffirm our commitment to celebrate the power and vibrancy of the disability community and its numerous contributions. Your voice matters and you help us build a more accessible, just, and inclusive San Francisco. As part of our work in advancing accessibility and equity, our Disability & Aging Services Department is proud to be a contributor to the nation’s first municipally-funded Disability Cultural Center! This month, we sat down with the Co-Directors, Dagny Brown, Mika Kie Weissbuch, and Emily Beitiks to hear about the Center's history, vision, and mission: https://lnkd.in/gwqRCt7Q We are thrilled for this project to become a reality. Though the Center is projected to open in 2025, we're excited to share they will be offering some truly amazing virtual programs this summer: https://lnkd.in/gvzmP7cj

We’re excited to share that Kelly Dearman, E.D for our Department of Disability & Aging Services, was invited to present at the 2024 “Getting Together for the Socially Neglected” conference in Seoul, Korea. Kelly presented on how our city policies are designed to protect older adults in SF, keeping them engaged in our community and enabling them to age in place.

This past weekend, we hosted the Mae Louise Mays Annual Charity Softball Tournament! The tournament was named for Willie Mays’ wife, who was a social worker with our Agency and was started by a group of staff in our Family & Children Services department to support foster youth. Teams from across the City’s departments and community organizations came together in friendly competition to win the tournament trophy. Although our teams didn't secure the overall win, we did beat the Board of Supervisors team 23-7. Thank you to every team who participated and all those who helped raise funds for our kids in foster care. See you next year! Check out the news clip from ABC7 to learn more about the tournament: https://lnkd.in/gNxuVtyZ #SFHSA #PublicService #SocialServices

City and County of San Francisco - Human Services Agency reposted this
Had a another great time playing in the City and County of San Francisco citywide Softball tournament! It was the 31st Mae Louise Mays tournament where over 20+ departments play against each other for Charity. Huge thanks to City and County of San Francisco - Human Services Agency for bringing this special event back! The softball tournament is dedicated to the memory of Mae Louise Mays, a social worker for the San Francisco Human Services Agency in the 1960’s and 70’s, and a pioneer in recruiting African American families to adopt African American children. Social workers today build on her work. #citygovernment #CCSF #Purpose #PublicServants #SFGOV #TeamWork

Congratulations to Gloria for being recognized by the San Francisco Police Department for #DenimDay! Gloria is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works as a Children’s Advocacy Center Coordinator/Forensic Interviewer. Denim Day recognizes individuals who have dedicated their careers to supporting those who have experienced sexual violence and have served as advocates in the field. "I have been at the San Francisco Children's Advocacy Center for about 20 years and the community partners know that I am here for them. This job keeps me on my toes because of the multiple complexities and every day is different. As the CAC coordinator, I work with a multidisciplinary team, which includes SFPD, the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Child Protective Services, the SF DA's Office, Safe & Sound and other community organizations investigating child abuse. Each of these agencies has their own investigative goals and I am responsible for assuring that our community response to child abuse is collaborative. As a forensic interviewer, I talk to children and youth about the trauma they have experienced, using a forensically sound protocol in a safe environment. It's a challenging job with many moving parts, but I can't imagine doing anything else.”
