About us

At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

Clean Transportation for All Campaign Director at Sierra Club

I’m bringing Sierra Club international! ⚡ I recently spoke with Robert Llewellyn on the UK-based podcast Fully Charged Show, and we had an incredible conversation about all-things clean transportation. 🚴♀️ 🚗 🚚 🚌 We spoke about the importance of cutting pollution to ensure everyone can breathe clean air and we meet our global climate goals. We discussed how some automakers are delaying the move to all-electric, and Sierra Club's advocacy for more affordable electric vehicles – both heavy and light duty – here in the States. I even learned that UK and US media are making the same false claim about #EV demand (spoiler: consumer demand is actually growing despite the headlines!). And we chatted about e-bikes, electric school buses, parking reform, and making transit more accessible. So much to talk about! Huge thanks to Robert and the Fully Charged Show for an electrifying episode on the future of #electricvehicles. Watch the full conversation on YouTube below, or search “The Fully Charged Show” anywhere you listen to podcasts.

"On top of the world, under the midnight sun, never alone. Teeming with life, the Arctic Refuge is home, leave it alone." Beautiful words from Jackie Ostfeld, Director of the Outdoors for All campaign, who's truly living the Sierra Club mission to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth. Director, Sierra Club Outdoors for All

Just back from the experience of a lifetime, visiting the #ArcticVillage before paddling 40 miles up the Aichilik River from the Brooks Range to the Arctic Ocean (Beaufort Sea) through the #ArcticNationalWildlifeRefuge with my Sierra Club family. Thank you Chris Hill & Dan Ritzman!! Also, love and appreciation to Kyle Ash for holding it down with two kids, two cats, and a puppy to make this opportunity possible for me. I'm not often moved to write poetry (nor am I much of a poet), but alas, this experience was pretty moving so I wrote a thing... The Arctic From above, painted strokes of summer sun skate across rivers and water-logged lands. Vestiges of winter, like white caribou antlers, reach for the sun, snowy veins, pulsing life into the Brooks Range. Winter’s thaw feeds the Aichilik, as it forks its way to the Arctic Ocean. Over time, mountains molt, shedding a rainbow of loose stones, fossilized corals that fill the river. Gravel bars fan their way to the coastal plain, only the lightest boats can pass. Sea of caribou line the horizon, shimmering silhouettes under a summer Arctic sun, never to set, never to fully rise, as she circles the sky, always at an angle. We’re not the only ones watching. Grizzly bear in the distance, emerges, dips and reemerges from a gully, as caribou graze, unbothered. With each step, brown fur glistens and waves, bear retreats without lunch, from hind legs she spots us, unsure she runs towards the river, downwind she smells us and runs in the opposite direction, she is gone. Unharmed, the herd crosses the Aichilik, swimming between gravel bars, before reaching soft tundra. A baby tries, hesitates, tries again. She will not make it with the herd, mama finds another way, we hope. Thick sheets of blue and white ice line the river bank, warm springs that bubbled from below, before freezing in layers, while the sun hibernated. Like thunder, summer sends the ice crashing into the river, replenishing the water, supporting our passage to the sea. Along the banks, shorebirds nest in the gravel, sitting guard over their eggs. Ptarmigans, gulls, terns, sandhill cranes, loons, swans, Lapland longspurs, and more summer in the Refuge, a cacophony of calls standing out over the steady backdrop of the river’s flow as we sit quietly, listen. We approach the delta, and gravel gives way to mud. Our boat can go no further. Almost there, we walk through water logged tundra, through mud that tugs at our heels, holds us back, slows us down. Each step a feat, our footprints add to those who came before, caribou, bear, sandhill cranes and more, their tracks dot the delta, guiding our path to the sea. On top of the world, under the midnight sun, never alone. Teeming with life, the Arctic Refuge is home, leave it alone.

A Far Right think tank has created Project 2025, a plan to dismantle our democracy. The Heritage Foundation’s extreme initiative aims to centralize power, destroy checks and balances, and harm millions of Americans by attacking health care, education, and climate action. We must protect our democracy and fight against this authoritarian blueprint. https://bit.ly/3zN5MzA ✍️ Ben Jealous

On June 8th, the Kentucky Chapter kicked off the #TransitToTrailsSeason with an outing! Together, participants used the TARC to ride to Iroquois Park to attend the new South End Community Market and do a short hike to the overlook at the park. Participants discussed the impact of clean transportation, urban agriculture, black farmers, and informed local elected officials about the national Transit to Trails campaign. At Sierra Club, we know that outdoor access provides numerous physical and mental health benefits, but not everyone has access to a local park. The Transit to Trails for All Campaign works to ensure that public lands are in reach for everyone, regardless of income level, race, ethnicity, neighborhood or health.
