GETs have now become part of discussions, articles and even federal rules, but there is often confusion on what they are exactly. To address this, EPRI has published a series of fact sheets, including one on APFC like SmartValve™⚡ Per the fact sheet: "Advanced Power Flow Control (APFC) technologies are power electronic-based devices that can actively change the way power flows through the transmission system without making changes to generator dispatch or the topology of the network. In that way, these devices can divert power flow from congested lines to other circuits with spare capacity, making more efficient use of the transmission assets." FERC reformed regional transmission policy for the first time in a decade with #Order1920. But what will it change? Ted Bloch-Rubin shares his insights, focusing on the requirement to include specific ATTs in planning studies⚡ This requirement to include ATTs (alternative transmission technologies), might seem familiar as it echoes a very similar mandate in Order 2023 (which focused on reforming interconnection processes), albeit the specific technologies mandated for consideration actually differ slightly. Advanced power flow control (APFC) is included in both rules, recognizing the value of being able to divert power from overloaded facilities to underutilized ones in both general transmission planning and in supporting the connection of new generation. André Priolli will be sharing global projects that use our advanced power flow control solution, SmartValve™, to unlock capacity and solve critical grid issues, at CIGRE Brasil's event later this month⚡ This event is organized by the C1 Committee of CIGRE-Brasil - Comitê Nacional Brasileiro de Produção e Transmissão de Energia Elétrica to discuss the use of Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in transmission and distribution grids in Brazil and further afield. Register ➡️https://hubs.ly/Q02Fy4bg0 FACTS refers to static power-electronics devices that were developed to increase power transfer capability, stability, and controllability of AC transmission networks through series and/or shunt compensation. SmartValve is a series-connected FACTS device called a modular Static Series Synchronous Compensator (m-SSSC). Learn about m-SSSCs at https://hubs.ly/Q02Fy4p80

Hedd Roberts and Mark Norton visited leading distribution utility Avacon Gruppe, alongside House of Energy e.V. and m3 management consulting GmbH, to discuss use of SmartValve™ on distribution grids in Germany⚡
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Birkner vom House of Energy e.V. in einem produktiven Workshop erörtert.
